Bad Gaming Sequels

I have been trying to think, and I have yet to think of one video-game franchise that has a bad first sequel.

This does not include third or fourth or so on games in the series, it is just the second one.

Also, games made by a different company, aka KotOR 2 or Bioshock 2.

So, are there any?

A bad sequel? Mass Effect 2 was CRAP. The plot was good, but they turned a perfectly good RPG into a pretty 3rd-person shooter.

I know a lot of people who would debate that.

I've not played much of Area 51, but its sequel, BlackSite: Area 51 is pretty terrible. Not sure if they're made by the same developer.

And The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. It's nowhere near the quality of Escape from Butcher Bay.

While I agree with you saying they turned a perfectly good RPG into a pretty 3rd-person shooter, I don't agree that it was crap. I think a better word for it is mediocre, crap would imply it's not worth even a single play through, whereas mediocre would warrant a single play through but not anymore since its just the same shit over and over.

They're just graficly upgraded but plot and gameplay stupified. I wow not to buy any more C&C games, cept mayb Renegade 2. Which will never be released, Even tho the game was brilliant and underrated.

I personally don't think Halo 2's campaign was as good as that of Halo: Combat Evolved. Story wasn't quite as good (but still quite good), and it got kind of repetitive near the end. But considering the overall gameplay improvements it made, as well as the vastly improved multiplayer, I don't think it counts as actually being overall worse.

As for the people saying Mass Effect 2... seriously? The RPG elements were very simplified, yes. It probably would have been better if they fixed the problems with Mass Effect rather than just removing them altogether. But I'd rather have a simplified game than a complex one with the crap menu system of Mass Effect 1. The RPG elements in that game were a pain because of the badly-designed menus. Everything in Mass Effect 2 was better than in Mass Effect 1, and the problems that weren't improved were removed. Overall, it was much, much better, and a fantastic action RPG. Even if it could have been better.

I loved Mass Effect 2, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Thanks for killing one of my favorite games. RA2 was really fun and cheesy when I played it way back when. RA3 sucked. Damn why did they ruin them.
