Batman: Arkham City/Games for Windows Question

Saw Steam has Arkham City for $29. I knew the game had 3 drm systems and that's the reason I didn't buy it day one despite enjoying the first one. According to the Steam page:

"Online play requires log-in to Games For Windows ? Live"

For those that have the game... does this mean if I don't ever play multiplayer I don't need to install Games for Windows at all? Or when I install the game is Games for Windows automatically installed regardless?

I'm not anti-drm but 3 on one game? That kinda irks me.

They're really screwing the PC gamers over with this one.
The GOTY edition is out for consoles and they haven't even given us a release date for the PC GOTY edition. Though they did announce it, so that's a start.

In order to save or play online you must be logged in to GFWL. Used to be able to use an offline profile and save but update 1.3 borked that option, whether intentionally or unintentionally I don't know.
