After 15 "Arkham" domain names were registered a few months ago [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121487-Warner-Bros-Goes-Batty-For-Arkham-Domains], it has been revealed by the cover of the May issue of Game Informer [http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/04/09/may-cover-revealed-batman-arkham-origins.aspx] that they have chosen Batman: Arkham Origins for the next title in the Batman series

According to the Game Informer article, it seems that WB Games Montreal will be taking over from Rocksteady as the developers of the game, perhaps lending credence to the rumours that flew about a while back that Rocksteady may be moving onto making a Superman game.

The creative director behind the newest game in the franchise is Eric Holmes, a man known for his work on The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype, both Radical Entertainment games, although his position previous to working at WB was with Epic Games.

And obviously as the name "Origins" entails, this game will be a prequel, set before both previous Arkham games, with a younger Batman, perhaps taking on some of the supervillians for the very first time. Now this next thought is just idle speculation from myself but will a younger Batman perhaps mean a change in voice actor, as seems to be the trend these days?

And finally, as well as a release date of October 25, 2013 announced for all of the current gen consoles and PC, a handheld game has also been revealed for 3DS and PS Vita to be released on the same day, named Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, a separate experience taking place after Origins.

Personally, I will admit that I'm a little worried that it isn't Rocksteady that is working on this, but I hope that WB Games Montreal will be able to step up and continue, if not better, the great work that Rocksteady had done.

Sounds promising so far... what little there is to go off of.

I'm sure alot of people are probably going to be worried about the change in developers and that the game is going to be some prequel story rather than continuing on from the end of Arkham City, although I never felt the story in that game was anything that special to be honest.

Can't wait to hear more about this.

Not too crazy about the change in developers, and I was hoping for a true Silver Age game in all it campy glory, but It looks like Deathstroke is playing a big part in this one, and I'm all over that.

I'm a bit concerned with Rocksteady not being involved, but I trust WB Games, which is more than I can say for many other publishers.

[small]NO MORE SCARECROW PLS. HE GIVES ME THE HEEBIE-JEEBIES. NOT EVEN BABY SCARECROW. JUST NO.[/small]

I'd be interested to see where they go with this, though I'm ashamed to admit I haven't actually played Arkham City yet.

[small]Or finished Arkham Asylum, on account of me being a massive coward.[/small]

Ehhhh...

- Do we really need another Batman "origin" story?
- WB Games Montreal hasn't released a single title, and while Rocksteady was (mostly) in the same position at the time Aslyum released, switching developers is pretty worrying -- especially when the new creative director is a guy from Radical. As much as I liked Prototype and heard Ultimate Destruction was pretty decent, neither are really... Batman-y.
- Kevin Conroy had better be voicing Batman. Pretty sure peoples' voices don't change that dramatically, after the age of twenty, over ten-twenty years without drastic outside influence.

I can't believe I'm actually apprehensive about a new Arkham game... I won't assume the worst, but this certainly feels like a bad omen to me.

Hmm I like the Arkham games, and I usually don't care about if it changes developers. (Though for this game I'm a bit worried)

But one thing ... AND ONE THING, gets me.
PREQUEEEEEEEEL~!

... I usually hate prequels, I do give them their chances but usually I don't like what I see. :/
I'll keep my eye on this but doubt I will get it.

New developer or not, I loved the first two Arkham games and I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on this one. Still, I can't help but share in the concern that all the changes being brought into Origins might bring down the quality and uniqueness we've come to expect from the series, but I'll remain optimistic.

Hopefully we'll see some gameplay soon.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm interesting. I'm a bit worried that Rocksteady aren't doing it but I can understand them not wanting to (if they had a choice). They should move their talent onto something else.

As long as they keep the refined gameplay from AC, then it will be fine. And since that's all been done already it should be fine.

I actually played through both the games again recently, and really as long as they don't monkey around with the combat mechanics (the most important part and what I'd say made those games awesome) I think things should be alright.

That said, if The Joker's in it and they couldn't convince Mark Hamil to voice him again (as I'm pretty sure he declared that Batman: AC was going to be the last time he'd do it), I already don't like this game. :p

Wait, but what happened to the guy in the Sidequest with the Bruce-Wayne face who killed people?

Just going to drop it?
Don't forget The Watcher that keeps popping up and tells you that you're going to fulfill a heroic prophecy to shut the gates of hell after Gotham burns with you along with it.

I'm going to sit on the fence for this one. I am worried that the quality will suffer due to the change in studios, but I'm not willing to write it off just yet. Plus the screenshots for it look pretty decent too. Deathstroke is always a plus as well. Can't wait to hear more about it.

Sorry to disappoint but none of the Arkham games have been in the Silver Age. In fact, they're based on the '90s animated series, which was pretty dark and serious.

He also said he'd never do another Star Wars. Money can be a powerful motivator.
