With Battlefield 3 on the horizon I have been attempting to replay Battlefield 2 to no prevail thanks to bugs. Sadly as a person that wants to be a games designer I still do not comprehend what it is that makes BF2 so special. I have played both BF2 a bit and BFBC2 loads and apart from a more atmospheric and graphically better BFBC2 have less varied vehicles but however has a destruction engine. So my question is this why do players favour BF2 and what elements separates it from BFBC2 which are so highly valued? sept going prone.

And the commander and proper air support.

What bugs are you running into Weker?

Also, have you updated it to 1.5?

running on steam and when I connect to a game sever it disconnects me each times.
Been playing Rift and work so havent found the time to look deeply into the matter and still have much more pressing games to complete like Deadly Premontion

It always felt to me that BFBC2 always took a more in-your-face action-fest, while the original BF2 was a bit more tactical. But that's just my hunch, mind you.

Download Punkbuster from evenbalance.com, add BF2, update.
Disable the Steam overlay in steam settings. (PB thinks it's a hack for some reason)

Fire up BF2, join servers and play. Works mighty fine. :D

I thought BF2 is alright. I felt its a bit too hetic, and I can barely get any kills or even take over an area in conquest without having thirty gernades fly onto my spot. Even with a squad, it still happens.

Maps. The emphasis of team work. Better core mechanics. Better class balance.

This is why Battlefield 2 still rocks.

Battlefield 2 has commanders, jets and larger maps.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is smaller and more action-packed, but still tactical. To me, it's the most balanced game in action and tactics.

Both games are good, but different. I personally prefer Bad Company 2.

BF2 was a series of capture points strung together by bugs. They compounded this product of almighty 'bugness' by allowing users to become invulnerable to harm by equiping defibrillators, which also gave them the ability to electrify vehicles (killing all inside of it and making it free for driving).
The machine gun 'no recoil' bug? The missile with a mind of it's own bug? Hell the fucking knife was a bug that they just labled 'Knife'.

And DESPITE all of this it was still one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had online in a fps.
HOW do you go from buggy but otherwise excellent vehicle handling and world physics (after many manny patches) to Bad Company's god awfully excuse of a Hind attack helicopter. It could hover at ANY angle on it's rotor axis and not plummet to the ground, not to mention the jeep, vodnik and tank handling....

Held in that rant for quite some time now, but anyway BF3 would have to have the map scale, the player size and vehicle handling of BF2 and combine the destructable environments of BBC2 to make it worth owning.
Fuck the visuals I want my proper battlefield scale maps back!

I liked BF2, but I much preferred 2142. I never played either of the Bad Company games, so I can't comment on them. I like the scale of the Battlefield games though, so I probably wouldn't like BC as much.

I'm looking forwards to BF3, but it's not going to be a 'must buy' for me, unlike Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Shogun 2: Total War or any of the other games that are out or are coming out this year that I'm really looking forward to playing.

Dice developed BC2 to both test their Frostbite engine to see if console's could handle it and to try to compete with CoD. That's the reason you feel that it's more of an "in-your-face" type of game.

I can't wait for Battlefield 3 either, but I may not buy it because of the player limit on consoles. I believe 24 players is too small a limit for a game with such huge maps. I understand technical limits and all, but the number 24 is an ugly number. A small increase from 24 to 32 would be a much better limit to me and seems more than plausible.

Oh, and in before "GET A PC, CONSOLE FAG!". -.-

I only have BF2 (my PC is a budget laptop and I haven´t gotten my PS3´s network functioning) but I´ve played BFBC2 at a friend´s house. Personally, I think BFBC2 has more variety and freedom of choice to the classes and is better balanced, especially the close range firefights are a lot less annoying. Obviously, better graphics and destructible environments are a plus. BF2 however has a better sense of working with teammates and captures the essence of controlled chaos better.

Overall, I prefer BFBC2
