I am a try-hard Call of Duty player, and have really enjoyed Call of Duty 4, and Modern Warfare 2. But, I was thinking about looking into Battlefield 3 when it comes out, but i am a noob to the franchise. So I have recently decided to look into buying Battlefield Bad Company 2 to see how much i like it. I know that Call of Duty and Battlefield are two different types of shooting games; with Battlefield being more of a team based, or team oriented shooter, and Call of Duty being... well, you know, Call of Duty. My question is this; How team based is Battlefield Bad Company 2? Is it team based to the point where if I have no friends to play with I will lose, or is it more of the, "Teamwork is recommended" type of game? I am open minded to a team based shooter, and not going to be the, "Medic-who-never-heals-anyone-because-he-saw-a-dude-over-there-in-the-bush-kind-of-guy," but have no real experience with one... unless you count Borderlands.

Also, I am playing it on Xbox, and would like to know how many people still play it.

Thanks in advance

Teamwork is necessary. That the reason I stopped playing. Because nobody works together and none of my friends will play it.

If you can get your friends to get it, then go for it. Otherwise, prepare to get pissed off at the other players.

it's hit or miss with the online, and at this point it's better to just wait for Battlefield 3 (it's coming out in the fall I think)

also, how do you not like how MW3 is shaping up? There hasn't been a gameplay trailer to my knowledge, so how can you judge it as a game?

Plenty of people still play cad company 2 on the ps3, so more than enough should be on the 360.
As for your other questions, whenever you join a game, you're automatically assigned to a squad, and you can choose to follow your other squadmates or you can go solo.

You'll certainly do better if you stick with teammates, especially if you're all different classes, so you've got the medic who can heal, the assult guy who can ressuply, the engineer for repairs and anti tank, and the sniper for long range and anti sniper support.

If you're playing team death match though, you can solo and it wont affect your team badly.

Anyway i'd reccomend getting into BF, its a great series that imo is improving each installment alot more than cod does.

You get rewarded loads for helping people anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem at all. If you play medic, you rez someone and get a tonne of xp. If you're a medic and drop a AOE health kit, you get a tonne of points. If you're recon and you drop a sensor mine, you get a tonne of points. And so on.

One important thing, though. Mark every enemy you see. You get points and it means your team has location on that enemy for a short while, it's basically the key to winning a match.

Well, it's just the whole Infinity Ward thing. The fact that there are so many people working on it just doesn't seem right, why can Infinity Ward make call of duty 4 and MW2, but require two more companies to make MW3? Something just isn't right. Anyway, i guess i should have made that a little clearer.

To answer your easier question first, plenty of people play it and i frequently play it myself. As for how team based it is, it's very team oriented and playing as a team is always more effective than going lone wolf. That being said I have had positive experiences with random teams and having no friends playing is not a guaranteed loss. The thing is, most people will go out of their way to help you because lots of times it's a faster way of getting points than kills.
However you slice it I would recommend buying it as long as you pick up a VIP code.
oh and the sniping is great, like top notch, bullet drop included.

The Sniping is actually one of the reasons i was looking into it ;)
And the VIP code, that is basically just a way to get people on used games, right? It is included in a new game isn't it?

Lol, COD players do have a bad tendency to have terrible people skills, and have whiny voices...
I would get it for PC, but mine isn't gaming in anyway other then flash games.

Some players hate medics who revive them because they may be low on ammo. Ignore them for the most part. Sniper rifles handle quite differently than in Call of Duty. They're similar, but the large distances on maps really illustrate just how different they can be. At least you'll get less of those impossible misses which made the m40 the best sniper rifle back in CoD4. The hit boxes in this game will take a while to get used to coming from Call of Duty.

Battlefield 1943 is pretty cool. Vietnam is solid. I'm not sure if BF1943 still comes free with the game even if you bought it new.

You'll find less teamwork overall in the 360 version compared to the PC version as the people playing Battlefield on console are not the same people playing it on PC. A lot of them are Call of Duty veterans.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
well its certainly more team based then cod but it also rewards team play so you get extra points for doing stuff for your allies, I have it on the pc and its very easy to find a game and I love it

You misunderstood me

Horribly,

If you think that BFBC2 is for you because you're played CoD, they have military themes and have guns in them,

Please, don't buy it. It's not the same type of game at all. CoD is quake-arena style and Bad Company two is RTS-but-on-the-ground style.

Not even close to the same, huge, huge waste of money for me (They marketed it as CoD, the snarky fuckers and gave me *this*)

Also, the bullet drop is laughably unrealistic.

Thank you very much, especially for that picture.

This is a fairly good intro for a complete newb.

The most important tip I can give you is to learn to adapt to the situation at hand. The best players are the ones who know how to use all the classes and when to use them. is there a tank hammering your base? Switch to an engineer or recon and blow it up. Your team getting low on re-spawn tickets? Switch to medic and start reviving people. Can't seem to get through the other teams defenses? Switch to assault and lay some smoke down. You may have been able to pick one weapon and stick with it the entire time in the past. You can't really do that with Bad Company 2. That being said I suggest you focus on leveling the medic followed by the engineer. They have the most use full gadgets which unfortunately aren't unlocked right away. So if you manage to kill an opposing medic or one of your teammates dies pick up his kit. You'll get to use the med kit and defibrillator paddles earlier than usual and be able to quickly level up.

Another thing, learn to flank. The maps are not a series of corridors they are very wide and open. With that being said there's no reason to try rushing in through the front gate. That will only get you killed.

Use the vehicles. If you have a choice between attacking a base with a tank or going in on foot there's no reason not to use a tank. In the same vein use the machine gun placements. Firing it in bursts while spamming the spot button will make enemy snipers lives miserable.

Also because it's not explained anywhere in the manual this is how you use the tracer dart.

That's pretty much all I have to say now. Make sure you get the special edition and make sure you buy it new so you can get the free map packs plus all the onslaught mode. Yes in Bad Company 2 map packs are free. I haven't been on in awhile since my gold membership expired but the games are usually full when I last played. I've also only come across about 3 annoying 13 year olds in the entire time I've played. When you get into a squad ask if anyone has a mic. They'll usually be more than willing to communicate with you and coordinate some tactics. They should also be willing to help you out with any questions you might have. My gamer-tag is listed in my profile if I ever get back on and you need someone to show you the ropes. Have fun and see you on the battlefield.

And don't worry about crashing the helicopter your first time. We've all done it.

Oh God, helicopters. The horrible embarrassing memories of crashing them into the ocean in BF2.

I haven't played the 360 version to know, but OP, you may want to invert the helicopter controls.

Just play medic with that extra damage perk, spray bullets and get a 15 k/d ratio. win. Combining support and medic was the dumbest fucking decision DICE ever made, I can't believe they even thought about it.

The maps are also pretty small. Every vehicle (all 5 of them) is useless except the tank due to the rpg+tracer being imba. don't even try to fly a helicopter, ever.
