Close quarters, like room clearing, would be great for a bayonet.
But a pistol wouldn't be a better choice in a bind. A pistol would be a better choice
if you had the time to pull it out. But if you don't, then a quick thrust forward with the bayonet to keep a guy back (Or to skewer his face) is faster then letting go of your rifle to pull out your sidearm.
Otherwise, on the battlefield in general, I don't think the bayonet has many uses.
A knife is always a 'must have', but it certainly doesn't need to be in bayonet form.
