I like the concept of Batman as a super hero however I have always found the films and animated series a huge let down because Batman's character does not develop. The game, Arkham Asylum did nothing to add any nuance to brooding avenger and it appears this years' offering is just another bleak serving drawn from the same stagnant well of self indulgent despair.

Through out all the years of fighting the scum of Gotham, he has never seriously struggled with the understandable urge of wanting to kill the Psychopaths he feels compelled to battle.

Assuming Batman is sane and takes a pragmatic out look on his crusading chores, it is inevitable that he would have quickly come to the conclusion - the elaborate and persistent criminals of Gotham pose too much of a threat to both this melancholic metropolis and its citizens. This would have naturally lead the dark knight to contemplate killing his persistent and homicidal foes.

Yes, this would be a huge burden for Batman to bear but surely it is the only sane solution to the wickedness that plagues Gotham. And remember, this is a man that continuously struggles with the callous killing of of his parents by one of Gotham's sewer crawlers yet he has never seek professional help to assist him with resolving this issue. The city would become a less dangerous place for its inhabitants and Batman would be able to catch up on his sleep. He is no doubt driving himself to an early grave with all those late nights.

I suspect that Batman thrive on the delinquent conduct of Gotham's human pests. This is why he is able to endure such a daunting and precarious night life. The cape crusader not only has a reason for living as a result of Gotham's criminal minds, he revels in the ever available debauchery of violence.

Batman will beat and bash his foes with furious passion but he never completely break them. To do this, would be to jeopardise his future and illicit pleasure.

I imagine he got counselling as a kid. and he doesnt kill people because that would bring him down to their level. he is the Dark Knight because of his honor.
