Disclaimer: There might be equipment and mechanics spoilers for this game.
Not literally, but the game is friggen HARD, even on the lowest difficulty. For those who have not played the game, let me give you a little context. Its played in a top-down perspective, has a very Japanese aesthetic(screenshot of the artstyle that is also a screenshot of the perspective): http://www.hookedgamers.com/images/5030/ys_i__ii_chronicles/header_ys_i__ii_chronicles.jpg The game's combat is VERY simplistic. All you have to do is walk, and ram into enemies. If you ram into enemies directly straight on though, you will take damage as well, so you either wanna attack them at an angle, or attack them slightly to the side. You don't have any abilities. There are few items in the game that you can use; One that will stun all enemies in the area for a period of time, one that will take you out of the current dungeon you're in, and one that'll heal you, those are all of which that I can think of that are something to do with combat. There are also 4 rings that you get that will also affect combat(plus one thats necessary to progress), the power ring which will double the damage that you can do, the shield ring which will decrease the damage you take by half, the time ring which will decrease the speed the enemies move at by half, and the heal ring which will slowly heal you by standing still.
Now that I have given you a bit of the context as to how the combat works, I will start by saying that all of the items that I just mentioned? None of them can be used during boss fights. The rings you equip will have no effect(though the armor and weapons you equip will), you can't use the item you have active and like I said, no abilities. The second part that makes the game's boss fights difficult is that you will probably cap out on level relatively early, making "grinding" out a few extra levels to decrease the difficulty of said boss impossible, but I'm sure alot of people will appreciate the grinding fat trimmed off as well(and that is something I do appreciate). The boss fights are more of a death match where you fight it out until one health bar is gone, and much of the skill has to do with how you move and all of your "strategy" is tied to that, rather than what your equipment is, what abilities you're using, or anything else thats in most other RPGs. I'm on the final boss, here is a link to show what the kind of shit I'm dealing with atm XD(I'll skip the dialogue before the fight by sharing to the timstamp where the fight starts): http://youtu.be/2VjOuqP2enQ?t=1m21s
