Well if you're saving money, I'd have to say find out what games you can run and play the best of them.

Just remember that if you can play a more recent game it might run clunky.
There's not much advice to give that won't include spending money, really.

If you're looking to upgrade, ram can be a cheap and noticeable upgrade.
Other than that, most of it is going to get expensive and not worth it to upgrade, you'd be better off getting a new one.

2007? It should be fine. If it's a laptop, I MIGHT understand with the small RAM, but shit, dude. I have a 2005 PC, it runs minecraft just fine.

All I can offer you by way of advice is to update your video driver and your Java. Aside from that, there's nothing else you CAN do but buy a new one. And don't give us shit about not being able to afford it, unless you don't have a job. If you don't, get one. If you DO have a job, even with minimum wage, just divert a hundred or so every month and you'll have it eventually.

In the meantime, suck it up.

Game Stuff:

You should definitely check out Gog.com for lots of dirt cheap older games that will run just fine on that computer without any upgrades. They've got a sale this weekend on all the old "D & D classics" like Baldur's Gate 1/2, Icewind Dale 1/2, Planescape Torment, and Neverwinter Nights. NWN not so sure but I'm sure it will probably be fine if you don't try to play it with all the graphics maxed out.

What I do is just play all the good games from like 6-14 years ago until I can get something besides my laptop.

Upgrade Stuff:

In terms of hardware/software issues, make sure your video card drivers are updated. If you have a little money to upgrade (sounds like you don't, but just in case), you could probably get RAM and an old video card for fairly cheap, and they are not that hard to setup even if you don't know much about computers. 2 GB ram is probably good enough with XP though. You'll have to look into what kind of video card it has, if any and look for a cheap upgrade if you want to go that route.

Something like this might work well, for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130654 But I don't know for sure because I don't know your computer, so don't get mad at me if you buy that and it doesn't work!! It's been too long since I built one to know this stuff anymore.

Look for parts on whatever version of Craig's List your country has or try a PC repair store that buys and sells used parts. You can get RAM and such dirt cheap and you could probably spend a couple hundred bucks and have a machine that will run newer games on minimum settings, at least. If that's not an option, then yeah, just play old games.

Also, if you're saving for a collage, I suggest just using old magazines and stuff that you can get from a doctor's office for free. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Bring that up to 4 gigs of ram and Minecraft shouldn't have too much difficulty running, just no max settings. My laptop which is a duo core at 1.7ghz and an atx100 runs it great. But it didn't when I had 2 gigs of ram.

upgrade the video card (nvidia 9600gt perhaps, 9800gt if you have the power and space) also upgrade the ram to 4GB (the video card and ram should cost less than a $100 to do), that's actual a decent computer, most the computers I get given are pentium 4 with 512mb of ram and a 120gb hardrive.

I have a comp pretty much like yours. Plug in a 9800GT and you'll be able to play any game, at least I can, with Crysis on medium at a neat 45fps!

Just buy a lot of older games from the early 2000's.

I recently had a real shitty computer (most likely worse than yours), so i went ahead and started playing some older games from Steam. And guess what, it was actually really fun! Games like Max Payne and such..

Heh, if that's old for you, mine would be ancient and although I can play almost any modern game, it's far from ideal. If you don't want to delve deeper on modern games, just browse through GOG for a bit, almost all of the games there can run perfectly on your comp, obviously don't shoot for the stars with games like FarCry or The Witcher, those games do require a bit of Video and CPU power.

I've been having a blast with both Rayman 1 & 2, I also purchased Descent 3 a few months ago and it's simply fantastic. Also, 2 years ago, when my video card went kaput right after finishing Fallout 3, I downloaded Fallout 1 & 2, both are amazing and I played them after Fallout 3.

Clearly you need the money for 'collage'...

If it is that old then there is no point in having it...Tetris maybe?

I upgraded last year, best day of my life.

Did you actually type that OP, or just stamp on your keyboard? It is especially important for Fist posts to be grammatically spot on. Anyway, buying a new PC is the easy way out, but it can be a lot more rewarding and satisfying to upgrade it, especially if you do it yourself. That's one hell of a processor, make the most of it and get a new graphics card. In fact, try updating your drivers first and see if that helps. If all else fails, upgrade.

Do the usual cache cleaning, old file removing, defragmenting and that sort of thing. It might give you a little bit more speed. Ccleaner is pretty nice for the job. Clears your cache, internet caches, deletes registry errors and its free. Just be sure to know what you're checking in the boxes before you use it. If you have data for flash games or anything like that gets saved in cookies it'll probably get deleted.

from my exprience, games on intel(i am assuming that that is what you have(great... i just mad an add out of u and me:D)) graphicss cards from that time, can run games that were made during the 6th generation of consoles and earlier. that would mean look for games from before 2006. as an added bonus most indie games will run.
