Mine just crapped out. I swear I have never gotten more than 3 years out of a monitor in 3 decades of gaming. 20-40 hours a week year round, I guess I just wear them out. Off the top of my head, since my current monitor is crapped out (on my wife's laptop right now)...

GTX 970 GPU
32G RAM
processor is mediocre, i-something, can't remember

Rig is good enough to run newer games like Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3 with settings pegged.

Don't really think jumping to a higher resolution is doable atm. I just want another 1080p monitor, but a good one, and not too expensive, because like I said, I'll probably have to replace this one within 3 years. Don't want to spend more than $300 or so, give or take a bit, if possible.

Thanks.

The asus vg248qe is pretty good. I have switched to 1440 now but the asus was my go-to panel for a long time and it treated me well. It's 144hz with a 1ms response time. If you do get it, do a google search for the icc profile someone on reddit put together for it. It's vital in filling in the colors

300 dollars for a 1080p monitor?!?!?! jesus christ mate, you could buy 2 good monitors for that amount of money.

this is a pretty good deal for size vs screen quality:

otherwise you could easily go cheaper or more expensive depending on what you wanted to change about the monitor.

This is what I'm using right now, have been for 2 years so far without issue -

It's IPS so hard-locked at 60fps but on the flip side, color clarity and depth is higher than the average TN monitor with higher refresh rate. And the image doesn't fade if you view the monitor from odd angles.
If you need the 120FPS go for TN monitors.
If you want better image quality, go IPS.
Both are about the same price so you can't go wrong either way.

Ooops. Go with Jumbo Palace's suggestion. Editing mine. A mess up.

Personally? I got a 39" Vizio TV. 60 hz. Works for me.
