Be it grunts getting stuck in walls or "helpful" allies wasting all your items or tricking the unstoppable god killing machine into staring at the dirt for twenty minutes while you chip away at its ass, we all know that stupid AI is rife in video games. So tell, me, what ones have AI that could be considered truly great? AI that makes you sit back and say "clever girl"?

GLaDOS?

Ok, I know. I know.

The hardest AI's to overcome tend to be of the Rubber Band [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RubberBandAI] variety. In short, the ones that will do everything to deny your winning.

Halo 3, MW2 and F.E.A.R. all have great enemy AI.

Also, those things in Dead Space 2 that peek over the wall or around corners and wait till you're not looking then charge at you... I hate them.

Am I the only one who thought the soldier AI in Half Life 1 was particularly brutal, rolling around like crazy and trying to flank you? Maybe I don't remember it that well...

Well, MW2's just looked good, especially since I can't count the number of times I've rushed the enemy and they stand there like a deer in headlights.

Killzone 3 has fantastic AI. The only bad thing about the game is that the AI is better than most players online because the AI actually serve their role.

Halo 3. Heroic (I couldn't see it on legendary for all the being killed) genuine attempts to prevent flanking, luring you out of cover and just generaly mixing things up as opposed to just ramping up the difficulty.

I have yet to ever witness good teammate AI. This really saddens me because it's usually very immersion breaking.

Your allies in Persona 3 FES. They actually paid attention to the enemies' weaknesses and what moves did and didn't work, as well as healing you when you were low on health. If you wanted, though, you could assign specific behaviors to them, such as only healing or attacking all out.

Halo Reach on Heroic, very challenging without feeling like it's cheating. Good about falling back and putting itself at optimum distance for it's weapons, good about rushing your position when it has you pinned. Virtua Fighter 4 / 5 where they actually mapped player personalities to some of the fighters. Much better than that button reading I win command used in most fighting game AI.

The enemies, especially the bosses, in any Fire Emblem game on hard. You will die. A lot. Because they are smarter than you.

I have yet to encounter what I would call "good" AI. Assassin's Creed's (two possessive words in a row sounds unpleasant) had better AI than most. Enemies adapt to how you're fighting them, and some will run when they know they're outmatched.

New Vegas has horrendously bad AI.

The 360 Halos were pretty damn good in that regard. Didn't play the Xbox ones.

Does RTS's count? Because SC2 probably has one of the best AI's I hate yet to see.

Othan then that I don't really have an example of a great enemy AI...

The Half Life 2 allied AI was funny though

''Sorry Freeman''

''Pardon me''

''Don't forget to reload Dr. Freeman''
Barks don't count, it's the actual behaviors that affect gameplay. In that respect they were atrocious as well.

I think the best AI I have ever seen was in metal gear solid four they just seamed to act very logically and they were a pretty good challenge to sneak around. You just have to ignore anything bellow hard mode

I always found the Army of Two friendly AI to be pretty damn good. Slip ups are quite rare.

Your team in SWAT 4 are also very good.

I would say Halo's AI, but I always found they were harder because they could take more shots and you less.

Worst was posibly halo reach when I have caught eliets just standing there in the middle of a huge fiire fight and I would shoot them and they would still just stand there it was even on heroic I was disappointed
