So I was watching a commercial for bioshock 2 that was promoting that Pre-ordering with Gamestop would get you some extra Multiplayer Skins. I'm going to get Bioshock, but two multiplayer skins is really not enough to get me to pre-order. Heavy Rain's Pre-order contains the code to download the first bit of DLC, but that's day one DLC anyway.

So my question to my fellow Escapists is What is/was the best and worst bonuses offered through pre-order? Also what are your thoughts on pre-order bonuses that are different based on where you order from? (Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy, ect.)

EDIT: ok apparently special editions count too.

Best: Probably that Army of Two (2) code that lets you play a mode a month before anyone else, or something like that.

Worst: Saboteur titty code.
Or the ME2 Terminus armour code. Not because it's bad, but because it didn't work for me!

I freakin hated the Mass Effect 2 Pre-order thing, I lost a perfectly good Inferno Armor code because I didn't know how the hell to navigate the stupid online code process. I still have my collector armor and I'm not using that thing until I know how to.

On the flip side, I enjoyed Dragon Age's bonus, 15 dollars I didn't have to spend.

I like anything that gives you beta access, helps you get a better feel for the game.

As for the different retailers... um it is generally the same. And since Gamestop is generally the monopoly on physical retail space they have the best pre-orders.

Based on location, the best place to buy is probably amazon or E-bay. They have the cheapest prices... unless there are other promotions going on.

That I've experienced personally? Probably the Darksiders 360 avatar costume thing. Compare it to the PS3 version and it's downright embarrassing.
Still haven't used that code.

Further; I was going to give it away here on The Escapist but I couldn't think of a decent competition.

Best would probably either be Heavy Rain, which is the DLC, soundtrack and maybe something else or Assassins Creed 2 which gave me two extra missions and an Ezio model.

Worst excluding any which give nothing...I'll say Resident Evil 5. I appreciate the hard case and the possible bonus art I may of had, but I was given absolutely nothing in terms of in-game items which was disappointing.

I've only had a couple of pre-order bonuses. I got one from pre-ordering GRID, which was a sponsored Aston Martin DBR9 Le Mans car, but then it turned out they posted the code on their website anyway which sort of killed the whole 'bonus' aspect.

Also I have the Darksiders pre-order code to get Wars get-up for my Home avatar, but I haven't bothered to use it yet since I never go on Home anyway.

As a rule I don't pre-order games.
I can't justify spending £40 to buy a game that i don't even know will be any good.

Best special edition i ever got wasn't on a game, it was on an album, i got a huge fully illustrated box to put it in, an art book, a poem book, a story book, concert tickets and a board game - and it was a debut album.

-Exclusive in-game collectors edition weapon and armor
-Bonus DVD with behind-the-secens and making-of videos (need to watch this still. :D)
-Limited Edition Cerberus Network Card granting access to included bonus downloadable content.

Singer-Songwriter sensation Laura Marling with the Songbox special edition of Alas I Cannot Swim.
and due to confusing doors opening with show starting i got front row seats, and saw Johnny Flynn, Mumford & Sons and her from the best seat in the house.

I've pre-ordered her next release already but you only get
- 5 post cards w/ download codes to redeem 5 further tracks online
- DVD inc Royal Festival Hall footage, interview & Devil's Spoke vid
- 16 page booklet
- special packaging
But i've already downloaded most of her stuff off blogs, the albums looking at having only 4 tracks i haven't heard, but i'm still very excited.

I was asked if I wanted to preorder Bayonetta after hearing it came with a replica of her Scarborough Fair gun. "Awesome, and seeing as its free I'll do that," I said. Day of release it was when them freak snow storms hit the UK, so stock wasn't delivered, but the game was. For two weeks I waited, and when they did get them guns in, the game shop head office recalled them with an excuse revolving round the selling of guns policy.

Yeah....anyway back on topic a little better, MW2's night vision goggles were pretty snasy. Did get them myself, but they still looked good quality.

I'm not sure what game it was, but the pre-order came with night vision goggles. Legit ones.
