As a fan of ALL games, I often choose a night of board games with friends over a lan-party. It always turns out to be a great time, and very competitive. My (well, our) list of favorites include the following:

Settlers of Catan
Risk
Monopoly
Stratego

I guess my question is this: what is (are) your favorite game(s)? Which board game(s) can you play time and time again and have an awesome time with some friends?

Hopefully I'll be able to get some ideas of some new games to add to our list of epic board games!

My favorites are Boggle and scrabble. And welcome to the escapist. Now get a funny/ironic/bizarre avatar.

Monoply

When me and my family get going it is a veritable bloodbath to see who can get their territories up first.

Mostly anything by Avalon Hill. Partial to The House on the Hill, or whatever it's called. Also a huge fan of Arkham Horror.

Stratego for sure

The game of Life was fun.
Life is a sloid game, I can agree to that, but which life are we talking about? They came out with an "updated" version of life that seems a little TOO jazzed up for my tastes...

Thanks for the warm welcome, and I'm actually playing scrabble online at work right now, lol.

Chess.

Stratego is quite good though
Chess is a personal favorite of mine as well, and I've played in many tournaments. I just can't play that game with my friends because I'd blow them out of the water, lol. 4 move checkmate? :D

Carcassone
Settlers of Catan
Munchkin (though the card game, because the board game is fun but super slow)
Clue

...but I hate Monopoly, it's like only a couple steps above snakes and ladders

Agricola. A perfectly balanced game with minimal luck without being bland.

If you think you could take Boardgames more seriously, check out this list and try and play one of the top 20 or so (though there are great games all throughout the top 100).

Monopoly is rightly rated around 4.4/10 for being the timesinking random dicerolling game it is! /boardgaming elitism

Heh, since it's not being produced anymore, a friend of mine made the Dune board game himself a year ago. We're still playing it occasionally.

Ah yes, Clue! I forgot about that game. Perhaps we'll have to play that sometime!

No it isn't.

Snakes and Ladders ends quickly. Monopoly is interminable. And by about a third of the way through you can tell who is going to win.

Blah. Nothing better than a good lengthy "Dungeons and Dragons" campaign with your good friends, a lot of snacks and booze.

Also, by the end of a Monopoly game someone is going to hate someone else. Fights may break out. Monopoly is intense.

Hopefully people remember what Monopoly is...a GAME. No need to get angry about it! However, Risk is global warfare, and if someone stabs you in the back in that game, you let them have it for the next couple days! :D

Has anyone heard of or played the board game Anti-Monopoly?
