I don't think I have ever read a book in school I considered good.. They were all mostly drivel.

I really enjoyed 'In the Skin of a Lion' One of the most intricate, intimate and generally best books I've read.

"The Giver" is a true classic. Though I think my favourite is "We" by Yevgeni Zamyatin.

Best one I read was in my senior year of high school when I had to read "Man's Search for Meaning" for an English class.

Although it was a bit odd reading a psychology book for an English course.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Finished it before anyone else, read through it twice and then went out to buy my own copy after I had to give it back.

By the way OP, your avatar is awesome. That scene from the Road to El Dorado never fails to make me laugh.

The Giver made me sad and a bit disturbed when I was made to read it in 5th grade.

OT: I read all of Tamora Peirce's books in Jr. High.

I had an English professor who was a huge Harlan Ellison fan which is where my becoming a fan started so the first book read for class was Angry Candy. My favorite Ellison is probably Deathbird Stories though.

This. I read both voluntarily in 7th grade, and then "had" to read them again in 11th, which I was more than happy to do. Great reads.

Holes was alright. However I really liked "I Robot" and "War of the Worlds." Dante's "Inferno" I also liked as well.
