I was wondering what you guys think is the best game for choice and also non linear gameplay, games falling into these categories make up the majority of what I play and find the most interesting though sadly the well seems to be drying up. The best game I'd say for choice would be Dragon Age Origins they are well balanced morale dilemma's and unlike in 2 it wasn't split up into the aggressive reply, diplomatic reply or funny reply. For non linear gameplay I'd have to say my tiny spell playing Dwarf Fortress and what I hear of it. I was wondering what you guys would rank as the best game for choice and non linear gameplay?

EDIT: I've never played Baldur's gate, I'm not normally bothered by graphics and often people hold it up as when games had choice and were much deeper, would you say it has more choice then a game such as Dragon Age or are people just being nostalgic.

Deus Ex is a good example, but the king is Planescape Torment. I always remember one of the first side quests you get involves a man who sold his body to the Dustmen for a cheap buck, but he decides he wants out after getting scared of becoming a zombie in the contract.

So many different options to choose from.

If you want choices and consequences, I'd stay away from Bioware games as the devs themselves said they didn't want to create extra content that never gets seen/played, since most ppl don't replay their games.
Oh god tell me that's not a real quote, i just threw up in my mouth. Reply-ability is the greatest asset a game can have. I spent the last week playing Through Might and magic 7 and 8 for about the billionth time, their still awesome, games like Fallout 2 can be played a hundred times and you'll find something new every time. If Bioware no longer care about adding in little gems that 90% of players may never find then they should just give up on RPG's in general.

OT - the Might and magic series, deus ex, Fallout series, Baldurs gate 1 and 2 and are pretty ace for non linear gameplay. But certainly for choice, you can't compare to Torment.

You should definitely give Baldur's gate a go first though, its a seriously excellent rpg series

If you want something newer for choice and non-linear game, try Alpha Protocol, I'd say. And as has been stated, the Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex...

Dwarf Fortress.

For reasons that are impossible to describe, just Dwarf Fortress.
