Best game intro

There's been a lot of best endings forums going around, and I was wondering what's your favourite game intro?

Tales of Symphonia had quite the intro. But i'm going with Metroid Prime. Seeing Samus in full 3d for the first time was simply mindblowing. The music, the jump she made, the jingle. Everything just made that awesome imo. Short but powerfull.

I would say the start of Halo 3, but only if it was added to the video 'Landfall'. That short movie was pretty damn epic, in my opinion. Otherwise, I loved the intro for Final Fantasy X, because Otherworld + Auron = Epic Win.

Mass Effect.

After picking your background, you here the chat between your superiors, discussing how your the only hope of the Galaxy. Then there's the backstory sheet appearing describing the games premise. After that is a huge zoom out of some planet with the Title Logo appearing, eventually showing Shepard looking out into space from the Normandy. Shepard then walks through the ship while some really epic music plays.

Mass Effect has a really good intro, I have to agree. But my favourite has to be Half-Life 2, because it sets the mood just right for what you are going to experience.

I think that MGS3 has the best intro. And the best Ending. Holy crap it is just an amazing game.

but i think that my favorite has to be GTA: VC opening, because it really set the tone for the entire game

Thief: The Dark Project.

Sure it's low tech and doesn't feature any fancy effects, but the atmosphere it creates and the sheer *cool* of it all is still impressive today. Sweet sense of style and awesome art make it great, but add in the subtle plot references and the heavy foreshadowing and you've got something amazing.

Mechwarrior 2

This was THE most eye-popping and incredibly realistic intro out at its time. This is from 1995, almost FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and it's still fun to watch, how incredible is that? I know it's mostly nostalgia here, but hell, I probably watched that intro enough times there are full movies I've spent less time with. This was *the* intro back then, people saw this and dreamed that some day, some day games would have visuals as good as that!

Baldur's Gate

Damn that's sweet, Sarevok was badass, the visuals were tight, the music dramatic, and there's even plot foreshadowing. What else could you want from a rpg intro?

Descent: Freespace

I am speechless, this intro is just fantastic. It's still better than most modern productions in many ways. Freespace 2 is in my opinion the better game, a much better game actually, but the original still has one of the best intros I've ever seen.

But the all-time best intro EVER in my oh-so humble opinion. THE BEST INTRO EVER goes to this little game...

Starcraft: Brood Wars

Name me another intro that's got Apocalypse Now meets Aliens meets Red October meets Warhammer 40k. Holy Shit! There's just nothing to match it, there really isn't. The sweeping opera scores, the World War 1 trench style warfare, the visuals and the presentation. It's nerdy pop-culture reference perfection!
