Beautiful graphics but the game was a bore. The whole point was guiding children to a cavern where they could work, but it took almost an hour to guide a whole group. Then you train them as soldiers and attack a castle. Got a bit of heat though because of the ability to kill disobedient 'soldiers' who happened to be children. Not to mention the ability to take or give drugs to speed up whomever took them or make them ultra-violent.

...Hold up, Nobody's heard of KOTOR? I must have somehow stepped through a rip in space-time and ended up in a backwards/bizzarro paralell dimesnsion...

Adding to the topic, I'd like to throw out the name Geneforge.

Dude, if you think people haven't heard of Knights of the Old Republic, you've been living either in the boonies or under a rock. My classmates, roommate, and even my neighbor's grandmother wouldn't shut the hell up about that game when it was launched. Okay, maybe not the grandma, but I'm making a point, dammit!

Anyway... On to the original topic.

Earthbound (before a bunch of reviewers re-discovered it at some point), Einhander, and the Souther Park video game for the N64. That, and Twisted Metal 3, though I don't know if that's so much 'unheard of' as much as it is 'world's most limited following'.

SWAT 4, while it's not completely unheard of,it is quite fun had annoyingly hard. It's probably the hardest fps I've played to date.

Impossible Tapdancing Creatures. RTS that lets you fully customize your units.

Why in the name of sweet buttery biscuits was this not more popular?

Yeah, i think this thread has pretty much been done before [link]http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.144761?page=6[/link], all good though. So i'll just copy what i said in the other thread:

No-one i know has ever heard of The Experiment (aka Experience 112). It's incredibly immersive and has some unique gameplay elements, though a frustrating difficulty at times.

The Moment of Silence is also a great sci-fi adventure game done very much in the style of The Longest Journey.

Also Overclocked: A History of Violence (though it got more attention than TMOS).

Gregory Horror Show is not completely unknown, but isn't as well known as perhaps it should be.

Barrow Hill & Scratches. Two competent horror adventure games.

Vivisector: Beast Within a slightly generic FPS based on the Island of Dr. Moreau.

Disaster Report is a sort of survival horror/adventure/action game where you instead must survive the collapse of an island. Not completely unknown though

HA! You think EARTHBOUND is an unknown? Try Mother 3, the fan translated Japanese sequel to Earthbound for gameboy advance.

The first Mother game (for NES, aka Earthbound Zero) was also fan translated and unheard of, but it's probably not a "best."

Ehgreiz, the rare PS1 1 on 1 fighter that stars Final Fantasy characters including Cloud, Sephiroth, and Zach.

At least, no one I know has heard of it. It could be as popular as pie in other countries.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World

My first RTS game. I still remember swamping the enemy with over 75 atomic bombers...
