So we all know the Resident Evil series and the Silent Hill series, I suppose.

Maybe not many of us know about the Fatal Frame series (shame on you!), but that's the thing: what are the horror games that not many people know and proved to be awesome?

Here are mine:

- All three Fatal Frame Games (PS2). Spooky as hell.
- Clock Tower 3 (PS2). Game's old, and CGI looks like shit, but I'll be damned if the game didn't scare the living ass out of me.

So... any other ones?

I don't know, i've never been really scared by a game. That jumping out of various things doesn't work on me. Apart from once! I'm proud to say on Timesplitters future perfect I swear I had a small heart attack when a zombie burst out of a chest of draws at me for the first time. Damn I love that game, the series in so many ways :p

"I have no mouth, and I must scream"

Daaaaamn, some bits of that. Whoa, really dark stuff. I don't want to spoil anything about it, but I suggest going to youtube and watch a letsplay

oh and TheSpoony one suggests this:

Oooooooh I saw a let's play of Condemned 2. That was scary! Especially that one part, with

I think this thread has been done a million times already, but for the heck of it, Condemned(and I refuse to believe that there is more than ONE Condemned game).

Penumbra and Cryostasis are supposed to be pretty good but I didn't get to play them yet. Obscure is nice as well, it's pretty much Resident Evil Co-Op style... not that scary but definetly fun to play.
Killer7 is so crazy at times it's starting to get scary, too.

Edit: The Suffering was pretty fucked up as well and probably the scariest shooter ever.

Please stop making these types of threads... I've seen this very thread so many times within a month...

Fatal Frame. It's terrifying and when I play it I have to sleep with the lights on that night.

The best horror game I can think of recently was the first 15 min of Bioshock

It had this entire atmosphere that had you scrounging for health and ammo, chasing shadows as they vanished around corners and seeing monsters right in front of you unsure of what they'd do the second you moved. The best part was when you walked up to a dead body, all the lights except the one around you turned off, and there was screaming all around you. I fired blindly with my shotgun in the dark while literally myself freaking out, until the lights came on and I saw the large pile of bodies from the screaming horde

Then it turned into a lame action game, so that made me kinda sad that such a good start had such a lame duck performance afterwords.

Too many Horror Games posts? Sorry, searched for a while and couldn't find any so I started this one.

Obscure is too much of a Teen Slasher horror. Meaning, it's all about the 'boo' and not much about the tension, which Fatal Frame or, like CheckD3 said, the first 15 minutes of Bioshock provided.

Rest of them, haven't heard of any, which is cool, that's what I need. What platform are they for?

I'll eventually. The atmosphere just didn't fit the gameplay, it's like someone wearing blue, and you put on blue to match, then they put on Red, it's still a nice color, but you expected them to be wearing blue

I've heard great things about System Shock 2, it's on my list of oldies to get

The Penumbra games are probably the scariest stuff I've tried. Though, I'm such a wimp when it comes to horror games that I've barely even played it, which is a shame, because as far as I've played, it's a great game. I've heard that Eternal Darkness is pretty scary as well. Also, Ravenholm (only the first time though. The following times I was comfortable with the scenario, but it's still kinda creepy.)
I have a theory though. With me, it's not that much that I get scared. When I watch people play a game, I'm not fazed at all. However, if I play the same game, I stress out. I think it's just the fact that survival horror games is the only thing that can make me stress, which I dislike, and it throws me off my game.

Condemned 1.

That is all I need to say.

That level in the department store was INTENSE.

Penumbra and Cryostasis are PC only afaik, same goes for I have no mouth and I must scream. The Suffering is PC/PS2/Xbox, Eternal Darkness GC-only. Condemned 1 is PC/360, sequel is 360/PS3.

I know how u feel about the zombie bursting out the wardrobe. I threw chicken everywhere. That fucker. Everytime i play that level now i make sure to give him a full dosage of double barrel to the face. Oh, I happened to be with me Dad at the time too, he lol'd at me =[

As for scary games, Condemned had its good mind fuck moments. Dead Space was okay, wasnt scary, just gave you a fear of being startled.

oh, and these:

indeed, its a bit moer consistent.

however, be warned: while the game is 99% gameplay, the few cutscenes there are are skipped.

its confusing as all hell.

(also, a psychic-based character is grossly underpowered.)

I know some will hate me for this, but Galerians. The time that I found and played it, scared the hell out of me. Since then, only Fatal Frame has had my heart thumping like that.

Most of the other games mentioned so far did nothing for me.
