Best Lightsaber Duel

So a friend and I were discussing the topic of lightsaber duels within the 6 Star Wars films.
I contended that the duel between Obi-Wan, Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn was the best of all the duels.

My reasoning being that this was the first real duel outside the original trilogy and Lucas wanted to show off the Jedi as being warrior monks, who could fight well and move fast.

He thinks it's the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan in Episode III.

The duel between Darth Vader and Luke in Empire Strikes Back is probably my favorite. Although the one at the end of Return of The Jedi is also good, there is a lot of emotion behind it. Something I found very lacking in newer ones where it was just a bunch of gymnists showing off.

OT: Mm... I'd like to say Ep. 3 at Mustafar, but that's too cheesy. I'ma go with Darth Maul/Obi-Wan/Qui-gon in episode 1.

End of Episode 3, I loved that dual, it must be one of my all time favorites.

Also I got the game and played the dual on there and it was awesome. (Also a secret ending in the game)

OT: Id have to agree with the Obi & Qui vs. Maul. Plus it was the first one to bring in the double bladed lightsaber, now tell me that didn't send a chill down ur spine when you saw that bad boy ignite!

I reckon the first time you see Yoda and Dooku go at it. It wasn't the best so far as specticle (like ep:6 or 3) but at the time it was mind-boggling to see the little green man go ape

Vader versus Obi Wan, in New Hope...I'm kidding.

Vader versus Luke in Jedi, the combat is emotive and tense, it's none of this silly dancing around it's Luke battering Vader out of rage again and again. It really captures a epic feel, which most of the fights in the prequels lack.

Oh, Star Wars? Ummm.. Empire Strikes Back's amazing duel. That's my favorite.

The one in Episode IV between Obi-Wan and Vader. It is the most representative of the original idea for lightsabers to contain great power and therefore be too heavy to swing around quickly and the more two-handed samurai-like style. Also: "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."

Well, the ending of III was definitely the most visually impressive and had the best action. However, the fight at the end of VI was just so much more emotive. The duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan sure looked nice, but there was no feeling behind it. I wouldn't have known Anakin was angry without him basically blatantly saying "I'm angry," (this could probably be put on the actor's shoulders more than the duel though). However, the fight at the end of VI is just the opposite. It's not that flashy, but you can really tell that Luke just loses it. At the end of the fight, he was just smashing on Darth Vader; it wouldn't have mattered whether he had a lead pipe instead of a lightsaber, he'd have been doing the same thing cause he lost himself to his anger.

So, I've got to say that Luke v. Vader at the end of VI takes the cake for me.

The final battle between Luke and Vader definitely put the most emotion into it, and I've got to give it points for that, but in terms of fight choreography, I would have to say the big fight in Phantom Menace was my favorite. Grievous' introduction in Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars series is also worth a mention...too bad they neutered his threat level for the movie. For any interested:

It's a tough choice between the two Luke vs. Vader duels, but I'd have to go with the Cloud City one. It helps build up Vader as a villain by demonstrating not only his superior fighting skills, but other force powers as well. It's also pretty shocking to have a movie end where the hero loses a hand and is utterly defeated.

Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan dueling Darth Maul.

It's the only one off the top of my head where someone dies. Duels are dangerous.
