What song has your favourite lyrics? Simple enough question, note that this doesn't have to be the same as your favourite song (although I guess it could be.) Mine is:

A few days ago, one of our fellow escapees posted a thread about how moved he was by a certain song. A song that I thought had some pretty strong lyrics.

Please skip the first 16 or so seconds, it's for copyright stuff.

This is one of the few times my jaw literally dropped at the lyrics. The other times I credit to Bob Dylan.

Oh and this:

Its a shame that the music and vocals don't give appropriate weight to the lyrics.

I've always had a soft spot for this song. It's just so well done, and the lyrics are very cool. And to think they wrote this thirty years ago, and it's still just as relevant today

(I know it's not an actual song but, if it was, it would be amazing. And lethal. Which is still amazing)

Pretty much anything by Ian Dury & The Blockheads.

Not necessarily my favourite genre of music but I can never get bored of his lyrics.

Here's a few:
I don't find words themselves nearly as meaningful as the emotion expressed by the music itself and the ability to conjure up an image of some sort. These are amazing.

There are way too many artists which have wonderful lyrics so I can't really pick a 'best lyric.' Here are a few random lines I like.

"Homophobics ain't alright, if you learn to love then you might love life." Alive by the Beastie Boys. I love their crazy-ass rapping but I also love their positive messages they put into their songs. Alive is a brilliant song in this sense.

"Zaephyr's sun will shine no more!" Opening line to Aenigma by Luca Turilli. It sets the mood for the album. When you hear a choir singing that line, you know shits about to get down.

"Aroun tha wurld." Around the World by Daft Punk xD. Name someone else who can make a hit out of three words :p.

"Superfast, superfast, I come in last
But just in time for breakfast." Superfast Jellyfish by the Gorillaz. I'll be singing this when we all eat jellyfish!

"Launch the Polaris...the end doesn't scare us!" Rust in Peace...Polaris by Megadeth. It's just so damn catchy!

A Boy Named Sue - Johnny Cash

"Some gal would giggle and I'd turn red, and some guy would laugh and I'd bust his head. I'll tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named Sue."

Glory and fame
Blood is our name
Souls full of thunder
Hearts of steel
Killers of men
A warriors friend
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers
To the end...
'Sons of Odin' by Manowar. I just frakking love this song

Another Buckethead fan! *brofist*

My personal favourite lyrics are in the Intervals part of Dream Theater's Octavarium;
Our deadly sins fill his mortal wrath,
Remove all obstacles from our path;
Asking questions, search for clues,
The answer's been right in front of you.
Try to break through, long to connect
Fall on deaf ears with failed muted breath;
Loyalty, trust, faith and desire,
Carries love through each darkest fire.
Tortured insanity, a smothering hell,
Try to escape but to no avail;
The calls of admirers who claim they adore,
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more;
Innocent victims of merciless crimes,
Fall prey to some madmen's impulsive designs;
Step after step, we try controlling our fate,
When we finally start living it's become too late.

I love this verse, it provides a summary of every other song in the album, and the final two lyrics always manage to send a shiver down my spine.

Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYPSZiE0OAs

You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow

Red sun rising,
somewhere through the dense fog.
The portrait of the jaded dawn,
Who had seen it all before.

This day wept on my shoulders,
Still the same as yesterday.
This path seems endless, body is numb.
The soul has lost its flame
Walking in familiar traces
To find my way back home.

So there I was,
Within the sobriety of the immortals
A semblance of supernatural winds passing through
The garden sighs, flowers die.

The gate was closed that day,
but I was bound to carry on.
She could not see me through the windows
In dismay, strangest twist upon her lips
Graven face, she said my name.

Once inside I heard whispers in the parlor
The gilded faces grin, aware of my final demise...

And I cried,
I knew she had lied.
Her obsession had died,
It had died.

When can I take you from this place?
When is the word but a sigh?
When is death our lone beholder?
When would we walk the final steps?
When can we scream instead of whisper?
When is the new beginning,
And the end of this sad madrigal...?
