I have just finished reading something that states that a poll run by the Oreo cookie company has concluded that the scene voted the best movie moment is......... the scene from the first Harry Potter film, where the wizards discover platform nine-and-three-quarters and travel to Hogwarts.

I personally find this to be quite a weak choice for best movie moment. So I decided to see what you guys and girls believe is the best film moment of all time.
(I apologise if this has been done before but my search didn't come up with anything).

definitely not the 9 3/4 bit, seriously, that doesn;t have any relevance to the plot of the movie, nor is it great to watch kids push a cart through a wall.

My personal favourite will have to bewhen the T rex first comes out of the gates in Jurassic park, when it is raining and what not. That was probably the most memorable scene I could think of, and seeing it in theatres was something else.

That T-rex scene still looks good today. I would have loved to have seen it at the cinema.

For me, in Friday Night Lights where Mike Winchell comes up 1 yard short of winning. I was seriously stunned because that's seriously the ONLY sports movie that I have seen that doesn't end with the good guys winning! I was like, YES! YES! FINALLY!

But there's always the scene in Star Wars where EVERYONE was super suprised to see Anakin turn into Lord Vader, because no one saw that one coming, especially since 99.9% of the people who saw that movie, had seen the original ones so we already knew.

One of my favorites is the Gunfight at the very beginning of "Running Scared" (The one starring Paul Walker, not Billy Crystal) About 6 or 7 guys fighting it out in an apartment the size of a Walk-in-closet. Now thats a good scene.

The platform 9 & 3/4 scene isnt the best moment in a movie ever, then again everyone has their own personal choices.Thats not to say that harry potter wasnt a good film overall.

My personal favorite is the ending of the Fast and Furious 3 tokyo drift....the bit where you see vin diesel sitting in his awesome muscle car with don omar's bandeloros tune playing in the background.I think it was the noise that beast was making behind the soundtrack that won me over (yes im a petrol head, that combination of noise spoke to the caveman in me :p). Sure, im well aware its not the best movie ever made, some might not even call it good, but thats my personal favorite movie moment.

(Just incase anyone wats to see what im on about - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lJ8YT3L3Zk&feature=channel_page)

Leave it to Oreo to think that ANY scene from Harry Potter would be deserving of the "Best Movie Moment."

Understanding that it's a completely relative concept....

Superman the movie- when Clark has to bust out the costume for the first time, finds that phone booths aren't what they used to be and then saves Lois and the helicopter. "Don't worry, I've got you," says Superman. "You've got me, who's got you?!" says Lois, all while the crowd as one collective group goes "WTF." "Who....are you?.." asks a bewildered Lois. "A friend," says the one true Superman, and flies off. Gives me chills every time.

I personally love the scene in Magnolia where they all start singing 'Wise Up' by Aimee Mann.
Either that or when it starts to rain frogs.

Going pretty old-school here but surely the plane scene in Casablanca? Can't get a lot more classic than that. Either that or the chest-burst scene from Alien.

I am going to have to say the actual opera scene(s?) from Repo! The Genetic Opera is going to live on in my head as my favorite movie scene for a little while. That or one scene in Repo! where two of the main characters are on the phone talking to each other and completely lying to each other about what they are doing. It was shot really well.

The Alien movies have quite a few awesome scenes. Like in Aliens when they have the motion sensors but can't tell where they are because according to the readings they should be in the room.

That final shot when she(Melora Walters, I think) looks straight in to the camera for a fraction of a second before cutting to credits makes every hair on my arm stand on end. I don't even know why.

"I'm telling you, man, they're right on top of us!!" Yeah that gets the heartbeat going. Another thing that has sprung to my mind is in Akira where Tetsuo has become that huge monster in the stadium and is begging Kaneda for help. I always feel so sorry for him at that point. It's a powerful moment for me.

I love when the gun falls down after it stops raining frogs. I don't know why but it always makes me smile.

Fight Club, where "Jack" and Marla hold hands and watch the buildings fall to the song "Where is My Mind", at which point "Jack" turns to Marla and says "You met me at a very weird time in my life". Then a cock flashes up on screen and the film ends. Genius.

Also Life of Brian, where they're all being crucified at the end and decide to sing "Always look on the Bright side of life".

We're going about this too broadly.

Before we find the most epic movie scene, we need to find the most epic movie. After all, it makes sense that the best scene comes from the best movie, right?

And to that end, we should also be looking for best genre, too, since it makes sense that the best movie genre holds the best movies.

There might be a few flaws in that reasoning, but it might work anyway.

Best genre: Drama
Best movie: Catch Me if You Can
Best Scene: Abignale literally cons his way out of getting arrested, despite being found at his apartment, surrounded by evidence, with Hanratty pointing a gun directly at him. Hanratty waits on a bed, taking his word that Abignale is an S.S. agent that needs to deliver some of these tools to the truck for inspection, and as he waits, he goes through Abignale's wallet absentmindedly. He discovers that it's filled with nothing but receipts and ticket stubs, and as he looks out the window, he sees Abignale sprinting away with a machine used to counterfeit checks.

The bit in 'The Good The Bad and The Ugly' where Tuco discovers the cemetary. Epic scene.

The camera slowly pans out while 'The Ecstasy of Gold' plays over it. Epic Indeed.
