Best Online Strategy Game

so, i hate to do this but due to lack of finances i was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good free strategy game. The one's ive played are shit, there was one citybuilder were it would literally take like half an hour to build a buidling, and u couldnt build another until it had finished so mos the 'game' involved u not playing it.

Anything that even remotley resembles Civilization is a major plus. Thanks guys

A beautifully designed mmo strategy game with different(but very rather similar) mods attached.
Basically the objective is build a base, make units, kill the other team.
It's like supreme commander, but only free.

If you want a good online RTS, go out and you can find Company of Heroes in most places very cheap. I got it for AU$20, which is so cheap. It has great online play.

Its not free but I recommend starcraft you can play on b.net for free system requirments are very low and the game only cost me about 10 bucks when I bought it about 10 years ago.

Kinda hard to recommend 'free' strategy games. That brings to mind the kind of browser-based mmorts that advertises on third rate webcomic sites, and I don't think many people here are experts on that particular breed of game.

For what it's worth, you could try the Harvest: Massive Encounter demo, but it's not an online game

You forgot to add it was/is originally based of total annihilation, an old RTS (came out just b4 star craft and IMO a whole load better)

it was made by the same person with the same concept. so it's kinda like TA:2, "wow, it's slightly better then the first one"
