Best opening sequence.

The very best opening sequence to a game ever! In case you wonder what I mean-
I mean the part of the game that introduces the game to you, whether that be a snippet of gameplay, a tutorial or a great big opening cutscene the first few mins make an impression to last a lifetime. For example Prototype's explosive opening battle or MGS4's prologue sequence where you must evade the gekkos.

Personally my favourite is the staggering God of War 3. I mean, you start half way up mount Olympus and have to help a titan defeat the god Posidon. And if that wasn't awesome enough you also get to see all the other titans at war with all the other gods in the background. I had to go look around my room afterwards to pick up the parts of my mind that had been blown away.

So what is yours? Half Life's guided tour of a massive underground complex? Prince of Persia Warrior within's ship battle? Grand Theft Auto 4's slow, uninteresting boat journey towards a boring island of dull mundane squalor and repetition? Probably not that last one.... Anyway what opening really got you exited?

Personally I loved Lost Odyssey's opening sequence.

Also I am a big fan of Final Fantsy 8's opening sequence.

I enjoy the Fallout series' openings with the "War, war never changes" speech, and I am looking forward to that speech and then getting shot in the face twice in Fallout: New Vegas. As for the most exciting opening, I would have to say Uncharted 2, when you have to climb up the train.

I actually opened this thread, planning to say that bioshock was my favourite. I used to keep restarting the game over and over, just to watch the oppening, swim, then go in the bathyspear.

bioshock two wasn't bad either, but after the cutscene, the oppening just went down hill...i'm sorry bioshock 2!

i also like the GTA4 oppening, but only because i knew it would be a great game! I was right!

See, I never understood why everyone loved that opening sequence so much... I mean, going through the caves and everything was awesome but not watching the Magitek soldiers walking through snow...

Oh, personally mine is Uncharted 2. You start off falling from a train hanging off of a mountain. It's intense and exciting every time I play it. Honestly, if I didn't know any better I would have sworn that was from a movie.

"Sit back, enjoy the music, and get ready for the greatest console game of all-time" is how I see it. It's not really spectacular per se, but the anticipation it builds is palpable.

I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but BFBC2 had an awesome mission to kick it off.

Rest of the single player was kinda meh, saved only by the humor, but man, that opening...

The original Halo's beginning. I didn't care for much for any of the other openings, but I still love the original.

Also, BioShocks. I'd replay that a lot as well to hear his awesome speech.

oblivions oppening was rubbish imo. it was sooo boring to walk through those dungeons. i hated it. that's my opinion anyway.

TES IV: Oblivion intro is just epic! No game intro has ever set the mood for a game as good as that did for me. GTA IV also did it really well!

i know i just quoted my own post, but i wanted to add to it, but in a new post. i also liked the oppening to farcry2. boring the second time round, but the first time, the whole thing was amasing.

I'm not talking about the first dungeon, I'm talking about "I was born 87 years ago..." etc., right up to the character-creation screen.
