What is the best RPG/JRPG you ever played? Why?

Also, are there any game mechanics in certain RPG's you wish would be in more?

Final Fantasy IX. Why? Dunno. I just like everything about it.

Kingdom Hearts hands down.

It's honestly the only RPG I've ever played more than twice.

As for RPG mechanics, real time combat, better magic systems and incorperation of more things to do than just mash X until everything in front of you falls over.

Fallout 3. I love post apocalyptic wastelands. I got to walk around one and fire shoulder mounted mini nukes into the faces of raiders. Awesome.

FFVII, with FFT, FFIX, Vandal Hearts 2, and Disgaea not too far behind.

Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn

I honestly have trouble thinking of a single thing I dislike about this game. The story is suitably dramatic and well told, the villains memorable, the supporting cast brilliantly brought to life, the combat engaging, the visuals stylish, and even the music is fantastic.

It is, hands down, the greatest RPG ever made in my oh-so-humble opinion, and a game I think anyone who even remotely enjoys the rpg genre should play. It puts everything else to shame.

Ten years running and still king of the genre!

Torchlight, probably. I also really liked Fable and Final Fantasies 9 and 12 as well as Tales of Vesperia. Diablo II stands out as probably my favourite game of all-time. I think Torchlight is probably the better of the two, but Diablo is more nostalgic and there's multiplayer in it, even though half the population on battle.net now are assholes, and the other half are bots.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I seriously just can't find anything I don't like about it.

A tie between Final Fantasy X, Pokemon and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Toss-up between Baldur's Gate II, Fallout 3, and Star Ocean: The Second Story.

Fallout 1. It just felt light years ahead of everything else at the time. I dont know if it was the change of location or switch to FPS/RPG, but fallout three didnt have the same vibe (though it was by no means a crap game. I'd say an 8 or 9.) Nopefuly New Vegas can bring soem of that back with the return to the West Coast and more familiar surrounds.

Neverwinter Nights was pretty fun to.

Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy XI, Lost Odyssey - each for different reasons.
