I've got a HD tv in my room and was just wondering if anyone knew what the best setting is for HD??? You can set it to something like 720p, 1080p or 1080i ???? Anyone know which is the one for 'optimal' performance??

Thanks!

1080p should be best, but when we set my friend's 360 up at 1080p on his HD TV he kept getting a ripple going up the screen periodically.

It's best to experiment, see which is best, which you prefer.

Well the setiing is mostly there so you can match it to what your HDTV can support. 1080p is the best. but your TV may not support it

the best resolution setting is the one that your television supports natively (matches the actual number of pixels on your television). any other option will cause a conflict and while many televisions have the processing to convert non-native signals, it's unneccessary processing and your TV may not even be smart enough to perform the conversion properly. so if your TV says it's a 720p, use that setting. if your TV is a 1080i, use that. But don't expect your 1080i TV to accept a 1080p signal. And don't sweat the differences between these formats. 720p is perfectly fine and there isn't a noticeable benefit to higher resolutions unless you have a reaaally large television (+50").

1080p, baby! My 360 looks brilliant on my TV.
Of course, I suppose, after reading some other posts, that not all TVs are good for 'gaming'.
But mine sure is! Samsung all the way!

The "best" setting for HD on your Xbox is the one that matches your TV's native resolution. If the TV shows 720p, set the Xbox to 720p. My TV is 1080i natively (yeah, it's old in HD terms) so I set my Xbox to 1080i output. If you're lucky or rich and your set supports 1080p, set the console to match.

Setting the console to a higher resolution than the TV just makes the TV's scaler work harder. (And may be a cause of controller lag observed by some people, though I'm not technically adept enough to prove or disprove it.)

It also depends on the TV, is it Full HD or only HD Ready?
Also, the size of your TV, if it is more than 50" then you won't really notice a difference between either 720p or 1080p.
