Freddy Mercury for me.
His impressive range, and the fact that he mastered both classic and rock leaves me with a huge amount of respect for him.
No question about it. There's a reason he was voted No. 1 Rock God.

He had an absolutely stunning voice.

Every genre has different demands, but if it's Rock and Roll then I gotta go with Robert Plant.
True, that's my favourite rock singer as well.
However, the best singer, in the history of man and the universe, is Sarah Brightman.
Anytime, Anywhere, which mixes operatic singing with her "regular" voice.
I don't understand how a 48-year-old person can look this good.

On another note, I love how Nightwish fans and Sarah Brightman fans get along so well and have a lot of synergy. I find Sarah to be better than Tarja, however, which is not a view many Nightwish fans share.

Johnny Cash had a voice that still stands unmatched in that genre.

If I have to pick one that still breaths it's a tie between Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian. Yes, I'm a die-hard System Of A Down fanboy.

Mike Patton has a ridiculous range as far as his vocal stylings. Maynard's voice is one of my favorites as well. Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth is pretty damn impressive though.

Oh my god! I'm adding you to my friends based on your name and avatar alone.

EDIT- Forgot my favorite singers. Probably Thom Yorke, Robert Plant, Jeff Mangum, Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith, or Sufjan Stevens.

Amanda Palmer, Nick Cave, Tex Perkins.

Obviously, this is totally personal choice, but those three people have voices I can listen to for hours on end and just feel removed from my own body. They amaze me with their talent.

Most of these singers that have been said are great.
My personal favorite is Victor Griffin from the band Place of Skulls.
Most people won't like the picture in the video, but you can just leave the window minimized or something.

My personal Favorite is Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple and also did a album with Tony Iommi. Another is Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Ronnie James Dio, those guys have some killer vocal range. Amy Lee is really good too. And Axle Rose even though his a complete Asshole.

Jeff Buckley. Some people don't like his falsetto, but I love it. Quite frightening vocal range (eight octaves if that means anything to you).
It does mean somthing to me, which is why 8 octave is a load of crap, only one person in the world is recorded to have an 8 octave range, Georgia Brown, who still only has 5 octaves of singing range. The biggest male range is 6 octaves and Jeff has a 4 octave range. Still impressive but still human.
