when has their been a time when you have decided to not listen to reviews to a game and gave it low scoress but you decided to not listen and buy it and enjoyed it, and vice versa (good scores and bad game (most will say MW2 for sure on this one.))

I recently saw the review for Lost Planet 2 on IGN (da bastards) and they gave it a 6... now the funny thing is that people added up the points and then did all the math and came up with 7.5 as the overall score... now I havent gotten my hands on the game yet (coming tuesday I will.) and from what I played its alot of fun.

also happened with MAG, White Knight Chronicles, and Sacred 2.

so when has this ever occured to you guys?

Best time that I didn't listen to a review to end up finding a quality game probably would be... i'm not sure. Damn review sites are always way too nice to all games, even the bad ones. As for the vice-versa, i'd have to say Dragon Age: Origins. It's not a bad game, but it was far less worthy of its hype than I expected it to be.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Falsebound Kingdom. I found it to be a very enjoyable RPG, while most reviews trashed it.

Most of them.

I very rarely listen to reviews. If I want to play a game, darn it, I'm going to play it, whether or not other people liked it. xD It seems that most of my top favorite games got poor to mediocre reviews anyways, so usually, I take it the opposite way. If reviews say it's bad, I'll probably like it more than that. It usually works (usually).

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel.

IGN gave it a 6 or a 6.5, around there, but I liked the first one so I got it anyways. I've since logged almost 3 days of game time and loved every second of it.

omg I agree also, I have so far 70 hours into it, just started playing it again. :)

the only review I listen to is http://www.youtube.com/user/InecomCompany he reviews games not based on any score or set rules, watch his review of Sacred 2, he loved the game alot and wishes for a third.

I don't really listen to reviews much anyway, I'll watch video reviews to see how the game functions and listen to what the reviewer says, but most of the time I don't really give a shit. One example is Splinter Cell: Conviction, I watched the review and thought it looked quite mediocre, even though the reviewer was giving it tons of praise, so I didn't buy it. The same goes for other games too.

In response to your question, I read a lot of reviews on Aion before buying it, with all of them mainly saying "it's a grindfest". It really isn't that bad and I can only assume that the reviewers must've been whiny bitches. Two Worlds got rated poorly also, but I bought it anyway and I think it's a pretty good game.

Worst Time:
Soul Caliber 4. I can't remember who reviewed it but they gave it 5/5 stars so I thought I'd give it a shot, what's the worst that could happen? Well I lost about 30 quid that's what.

I ignored the Darkest of Days reviews, because I had been following the game's development since it was only a concept demo and Goddammit, I was going to buy it.

Good decision, IMO. I know for many people, it's not their style of game (hence the 0/10 reviews), but I loved it.

I ignored many people's Fable review. I liked that game a lot even with all of it's flaws and it did have a lot of them which is why there were quite a lot of bad reviews, or at least the ones I saw were. I did however get the Fable The Lost Chapters version as recomended in the review.

I'd have to say Monster Hunter.
It's been trashed in official reviews by alot of sites,
but loved dearly by fans for it's flaws.
Aren't we just a bunch of suckers?

This :D
I was almost deciding not to pick up the first one even after how I followed the development of the game so wholeheartedly. So many terrible scores for it, picking away at it, I grabbed it up anyway and now it's one of my most loved series of games.

As a whole I pay little mind to reviews, until such a time it can be proven they are fully objective. Which will never come as revenue is of more value to most gaming publications.

Many a time a review has gone against the grain of game's I have persued and they've always been wrong. Not necessarily the reviewer's fault, but the ability of a publication to assign the correct staff.

As a general rule, reviews are good as long as you treat them as a single staple holding together a large dossier comprised of personal genre preferences, developer history, gameplay videos and playable demos.

Some reviewers are employed by a gaming company and are immediately biased towards that company. For example, GTA 4 got a 10/10 on Gamespot. It can be fun and such, but 10/10? Really? Hell Mass Effect was a better game (sorry for the fanboyism) and it got a bloody 8.5. Good score, but in comparison... bah. Sage is the only reviewer I trust.

From then on, I only read reviews for information only, not for recommendation. Also, it's fun to see a bad review for a game you like so that you gripe on what they found to be flaws.

10/10 Gamespot:

While somewhat unrelated, some of the best experiences I've had were playing games completely blind, without any reviews, previews, trailers or anything.

Though I don't play many games, and most games I do play are pretty much because I heard they were good from somewhere else.
