Instead of going to the best school, find one that works for you. Find a school that offers courses in Game Design (or some equivalent), and weigh the factors to find one that you're comfortable with. Sure, Digipen might be the best (maybe), but it's also very expensive, and you need a good portfolio to get in (I think. It's been a while since I looked at the school, since I was in your boat a while ago). Look into state and private universities near you that have the major you want, and just pick what you want. The best school isn't necessarily going to improve your skills dramatically than someone who went to a lower-tier school; the only difference would be the type of technology used, but, in this industry, the tech gets outdated so fast that you'll be learning a whole new set of tools upon graduation.
