Alright, i'm aware that the escapist community doesn't want people whining about every problem they have over their forums but...

Well i've just been dumped by my girlfriend and she's announced that she is going on a date with some guy she's crazy about that she met in a club. (she dumped me at 2am last night, via text.)

So yeah i'm left feeling pretty shitty, and i aint looking for sympathy. But i ask you, escapees, what is the best method for getting over someone who you had such strong feelings for?

Get a hobby, occupy your mind with something else until you can think clearly without the pain. That way you'd be in a much more stable state if you're break up warrants a "talk about".

Considering how many Escapists have contemplated suicide... stay away from windows, sharp onjects, and anything that is strong enough to hold you by the neck without snapping.

Now that that's out of the way, get rid of any and all pictures of her, for she is now the enemy. Do your favorite thing to do that didn't involve her. Try a good book or maybe some music.

Above all, make sure to abandon this thread once you find a successful technique, this thread will only remind you of her.

Hire a protitute, talk to some mates, have a drink, go to sleep, whatever makes you feel better.

You're a person with your own preferences, there's no "cure-all" for being unhappy.

Listen to some of your favorite music at high volume, sit around with some friends and play a game (alcohol is optional), and then stay up as late as you can and fall asleep in a chair or couch somewhere. This tires you out so much you have no time to think about the person and it is fun.
Other than that... there is no easy way. Just compartmentalize and delete, compartmentalize and delete. Break everything down logically.
I know you said you didn't want sympathy, but you have mine anyways.

On a more serious note, get off the internet and out with friends. Stay busy. More you're alone, more your thoughts will wander back to her. Only time heals wounds of the heart.

...but finding someone else helps too. >.>

I would like to thank everyone who's posted so far and to anyone else who does post. For putting a smile on my face.

Yeah I'm going with get under someone else crowd on this. Better still? Don't get hung up on something like 'love' in the first place.

She dumped you via txt? You can do better, dude.

Hang out with some mates, keep yourself distracted. It is hard, especially when the feelings are so strong, but you'll be alright.

Just try not to rebound onto someone else straight away. It generally ends badly. Give yourself some time to get your thoughts and emotions sorted.

There really isn't any good way to get over someone, you do it in your own way and own time. But this is also coming from someone who's never been dumped and I don't say that to boast, I've just only been with the one guy for the past 4 years.

Just rationalize, and remember that love is but a chemical reaction.

Also, dumped you via text? What a *****! That's a horrible thing to do. Believe me, that's not someone you want to chase after.
You stole my words!

OT: It was going to end anyway. You've just been released earlier on. There will be plenty more people to come and go. It's the flow of life. Remember, it's always darkest before the dawn.
