Totally just won £50 betting on Wigan to win the FA Cup. I don't even follow football (soccer) or bet, but my friend was watching it and I spur of the moment decided to put £5 on, and they scored in the last minute.

Partly I just wanted to boast, but also thought I'd ask whether anyone here has ever one anything when gambling?

I've won a decent amount of money in gambling events.

For sports, I usually will come out ahead when I place bets in the Vegas sport books (the only "legal" place to place sports bets in the United States for some reason). My Mum was just at Las Vegas a few weeks ago and I turned $50 into $125 in four days with 3 wins and 1 loss.

The best I've ever done was two years ago when I got to go to Vegas myself. A $50 buy-in tournament for Texas Hold-em against 40-some people. Now I am TERRIBLE when it comes to Hold-em if it's the normal casino thing where you pay for each hand and play that way. However, in tournaments, I'm actually a pretty good card player. I ended up at the final table and placed...4th (I think, it might have been 5th) and walked away with $400. Not a bad take for four hours of work :)

I played the slots on a ferry once, and won 1000 kronor, which will buy you 100 McDonalds hamburgers.

I am not a lucky person I won a cake once when I was a kid that is the extent of my big luck based winnings. I don't generally play games of a chance cause I get destroyed. I am good at games of strategy though I do very well at those :p

That's pretty impressive. Anything that requires skill of any kind I just immediately fail at.

It's freaking nerve racking. Luckily, the people at the final table were pretty chill about it and we all got to talking while playing. They probably saw an easy kill with me but I held my own nicely :)

If there is one thing that I would highly recommend if you give it a go is this:

Sit for a while. Too many people play everything and they bleed themselves out. Unless it's free (as in, you're the big blind), you should never start a hand that you wouldn't be willing to raise on. Also, try to find the easy kills. There are people who will strike out with anything and hope for the card they need to show up on the last draw. While this will pay off for them every so often, these are the guys where you get your money from :)

Well I bet my friend 20 bucks one time that this one girl would shoot him down. I was hanging out with him at the bars. Like to say that I am pretty aware of my surroundings. Little easy for me to read people. Girl in the corner was acting defensive in my eyes. Really have no idea why she is pissed off, she seems pissed off. After my friend looked at her, he couldn't see it. Put 20 bucks on the table and told him to go talk to her. He could manage to to talk to her for at least 3 minutes, I would give him the money. Managed to only get a hello out, before she walked away for him in disgust, lol.

Not a fan of betting on things I have little control over, and I have god awful luck even when I have great luck (when playing poker with some mates I have gone in with a full house, only to be beaten by one of those mates with a higher cards. Or I had four of a kind and another mate had a higher four. It's fucking ridiculous).

I also don't bet on sport. There is no faster way for a team I support to lose than for me bet on them.

Currenly I'm on a bit of a streak. I've walked away with more that $25 than I've started with, for the last 7 or 8 times now. But I'm completely paranoid about it now. I know I will eventually loose it all, so if I do drum up the nerve to go, as soon as I'm up, I'll chicken out and run away. Last time I was with a buddy, and started with $250. I won $45 on my third bet (playing roulette), and I immediately cashed in, and left. My friend was so pissed.

For me, I only play games that I can see in motion. Craps for example: I physically roll the dice, and I can physically see the dice roll and stop on a number. Other games like video poker, slots, video blackjack or any type of online gaming, I don't touch, because I swear those things are rigged against me.

I do casually bet on UFC fights with my friends and won $100 two weeks ago (thanks Roy Nelson), but never bet with a betting site or bookie.

I love 5 card draw and , because it's simple and fast with only 1 betting round. I don't have the patience for Texas holdem, or 7 card stud. But after a few drinks, I tend to forget that, which my friends are quick to take advantage of.

Eh, I played Froggy once at some machine in a pub. Won 200SEK(lets say it's £20) and decided to call it safe. Two friends played it as well, one won more than me and the other one kept borrowing money from us since he kept losing. He was the one who actually knew about such games and how it worked. The other guy and I just pressed whatever.

I'm not really into gambling.

I won 60 Irish pounds[footnote]YES, I'm old. Shaddap! xP[/footnote] once. My grandmother would bet in the name of her grandchildren in some Catholic raffle thingy, I dunno; all I know I was 9 (or 10, can't remember) with 60 FRICKING POUNDS. I bought a tennis racket, as was the style at the time.[footnote]Really. Tennis was HUGE amongst me and my cousins that summer. We had tournaments between us and all.[/footnote]

Other than that the most money I've won is probably 60 SEK -about 8 USD - from a scratch card. [small]Woo.[/small]

My first time gambling at a Casino I was playing $5 Blackjack.

I was down $40 but then I decided to put $10 on the 'perfect pairs' side-bet. Anyway...both my cards for the next hand were 9 of diamonds and that $10 turned into $300. I also won the hand (split the 9's and ended up on 19 for both of them).

There was a security guy watching me play after than win hahaha (I was actually drunk and wouldn't have any idea for how to count cards lol)

That was a good night :)

As a rule I only gamble with friends.
Casinos are scams designed to steal your money with the illusion of fairness.
I'd say I've broken relatively even on gambling with friends.

I don't bet often, but me and my friends did a Munchkin betting game where buy in to play was 5 dollars and you had to pay $5 more to buy back in if you died. Some games someone would only win the starting amount, but some games got pretty silly. Overall most of us actually broke even that night.

I like to play the ponies. Generally break even or make a lil extra. My first job when I was 15 was at a greyhound track, always liked the culture surrounding racing I guess, plus it's exciting in a way that random games aren't for me.

Counting blackjack is something that interests me, though that wouldn't really be "gambling."

I largely agree with this, the chances of being up on games like roulette or slots or whatever are miniscule. I can see why people play poker though (not video poker) as there's at least an element of skill and control there.

Sports betting, although ultimately the result is out of your control, you can weigh up your chances a bit better and make an informed choice. Or do what I did and foolishly bet on the underdog who then win right at the last minute.

I never really bet on anything though. Last time I did was the Grand National (massive horse race for those who don't know), and that's one of those events that pretty much everyone places a small bet on. Before that, I'm not sure I'd ever placed a bet on anything.

Nothing, unfortunately. I don't have much luck with this kind of thing. Although I did manage to get a tenner off of a former housemate when he bet me I wouldn't wear a Buff (tube scarf thingy for those who don't know) as a dress. Easy money.

I've never put on a bet through any official means, mostly because I don't have all that much interest in it and partly because I always tend to lose...

I always bet on the Grand National with my Dad, I've done it since I turned 18.

I seldom bet on other things, otherwise I know It'll get out of hand.

I play the Lottery often, and scratch cards, which is more gambling though.
