So BF3 has had the street release broken again here in Australia, that's what the 3rd major game this month?
Anyway what I'm curious to is why/how does this keep happening? Why are there no consequences being enforced. Isn't this illegal or something?

But the prices are inflated... We pay almost double the US if you take exchange rates into account.

Yeah but you have to understand the way supply and demand works here. It is not just inflation that causes high prices. In America, as an example, there are more people. You can get the same amount of profit in Australia and America by adjusting the prices to match population numbers. In Australia it's higher because there is less people, which means less demand, and in America there is more people therefore a larger demographic to sell to so the prices are lower and the demand balances with supply.

As far i know talking to my friends at the game shop the only games that have enforced steet date releases are the one where the shop has a specifically stipulated agreement with the publisher or else they no longer distribute to them..... but dont quote me on that.

As to the other games that keep breaking street date id say it happens...... because it can!

^This. It's not like it's impossible, we've got loads of games with a global release date.

That explains a lot. It's not a very fair system though.

The fact that they can break the release date does you they had the game, ready to be sold, already. The Grey Walling to make sure North America gets it first is a fucking joke. Not as bad as Russia getting their games 6 months - 12 months late, but they require localisation - Australia doesn't.

Apparently someone can afford to never be able to sell EA products ever again. Breaking the street date for a major published is a stupid move for any company.

I work for a store that sells games and we have to stick to the release date or we'll have to pay a fine and our suppliers may cancel our account, so they are probably in big trouble.

Side note, we've got our copies of BF3 on the shelf ready to be sold.

Pfft.

Like I can take advantage of the broken street date. It doesn't unlock on Origin until midnight, even though I have installed the game.

The same thing happened with Uncharted 3 here in Europe.

Sometimes, however, companies do get a huge fine. I remember this gameshop that had to pay over a million euro's in damages because they'd broken the streetdate of a game. Or a huge retail chain that, for six months, was denied the supply of new Nintendo consoles because they'd broken the street date.

Honestly though, I've worked in a gameshop and the fines you can get for breaking the street date, let alone the other consequences, are major. In the end, it really isn't a smart or economical decision.

Pretty much. I could understand if you have to actually localize a game for a different language, but releasing a game later in another country that already speaks English is pointless.

And honestly, what's the point of not letting a store sell the game when it's already in stock days before the release date? So some people don't have it before it ships everywhere? Big deal. They can avoid some spoilers for a day or two.

I didn't want to start a ne thread, but I just had a quick BF3 question: How do yo quit back to the menu after a match on PS3? I mean, after it shows you how much XP you earned and whatever. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it, total newbie here.
