Have you ever completed a game you really enjoyed and just went:

"now that was just stupid"

For me personaly it would have to be the ending to Blue Dragon
It just ended, abruptly, clumsily, without a great sence of closure. I really enjoyed the game but the ending was dissapointing :/

also there's Dragon Quest VIII
now i f-ing LOVE this game. but it goes through the whole thing portraying Rapthorne as a badass evil demon of chaos, and you finally battle him only to realise:

Now if youve never played it, that reatarded little, bee, thing, is about half the size of your main hero, WHO IS HUMAN.

So share with us, whats the biggest letdown a game has ever given you?

As of recently, Modern Warfare 2.
You spend the whole game with the notion of "Makarov is a sadistic sum'***** who needs to pay" implanted in your head. Well, that gets side-stepped to introduce another, not nearly as interesting villain who the player is supposed to hate because they killed a member of your unit (I like to call this 'The easy way out,' where you're pretty much forced to hate him 'just because')
Anyway, you kill him dead, and then... it ends. Woohoo? Did we forget about the blood-hungry killer who is still out there and most likely planning something even bigger? I honestly didn't give two shits about the other guy, why can't we go after the big fish and give proper closure?

I enjoyed my time playing Splinter Cell: Conviction, but at the end of the campaign I just felt like they left something out. My exact words after beating it were "Wait, thats it?"

How short Splinter Cell Conviction was, previous Splinter Cell games had longer opening cutscenes than the entire single player campaign (hyperbole)

I would definitely say that Fallout 3s ending takes the cake for me.
A decade after Fallout 2, Fallout 3 was announced. It was gonna have many multiple endings based on who you saved and what actions you performed. I expected it to be a blast and, after buying the game to realize that it was a kinda boring FPS, still maintained hope that the ending would make it all worth it.

Nope.

As for an anticlimax of a game that I enjoyed, I would have to say Gears of War.
After the whole epic game, having curbstomped every alien, smeared all the big monsters flat, and surviving bad vehicle sections, I drove a giant exploding train off a cliff; HELL YEAH!
But wait, it isn't over?

It zooms out and you're told by the main antagonist that there's going to be a sequel.

Modern Warfare 2 would be the big one on my list for the aformentioned reasons.
