So, I was thinking about reviewing this game, but I decided against it since I only rented it. I find it.. Well.. I don't know.. The game's story confused me to no end, especially since there were some parts I couldn't hear due to real life and its noise.

Did the story of this game utterly confuse anyone else? I'm about halfway through the game to the point where I just collected a bunch of ingredients to make some sort of chemical that I fed into a machine, and i'm still confused.

Nope, a few things I didn't catch until second playthrough or until I'd listened to more audio diaries, but I wouldn't say I found anything in the game confusing.

I'm considering reviewing the game myself so if I do I will explain the story.

The game IS confusing, until you actually get through it all.

Most of the games plot holes get filled in towered the end. But even then its kinda half assed "oops we forgot about x, make something up quick" but still general the games makes a lot more sense after you beat it

The game makes perfect sense the entire way through. At least, the goals of your character and why.

Make sure you can actually -hear- what's going on though.

Yeah, when I play it, it's normally loud in my house and I can't hear the audio diaries. Mostly it sounds like *chhh chhh chh* *ckkckk* *AHHHHHHH* *chca* to me because I've got a little sister around and I have to turn the volume down because of the swearing.

(spoiler alert; how do you make those spoiler boxes that don't show text until you click on them?)

You're trying to revive all the trees using that chemical. If the trees die, there isn't anything to make oxygen, which means you'll suffocate. If you're stuck, look for glowing golden objects or check your Goals again.

Also, you can re-read audio diaries. I'm pretty sure you can find them somewhere in your menu; that's how I got through the game, anyway.

No, I don't think it's confusing. I only completed it on Saturday, though. Haven't really thought about the story much.

It's one of those stories that only solves itself near the end.

That's why you don't have to. You can just say 'screw everyone, I'm looking out for #1.'

Just pay attention to the audiologs you find and the instructions people give you. If people in the real world are being loud, yell at them when this happens.

I have a friend who is crazy good at FPS, but likes a good story-based game. When we're chatting over XBL and he's playing Lost Odyssey or Dead Space or something, I might say something and he'll interject "shut up, cutscene". Simple and slightly rude, but I completely understand. :)

It is a bit confusing a second play-through is necessary to fully comprehend everything. But I'd suggest turning it up next time, or at least leaving the subtitles on.

Read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and Bioshock will make a lot more sense.

EDIT: Actually just read the book cause it's awesome.

It really helps to have read Ayn Rand, or at least have an understanding of Objectivism, as understanding Ryan's goals for Rapture is very useful for figuring out the background.

But yeah, you might miss out on some key information if you're dealing with a lot of background noise. Plus, I don't think you're to the big-ass cutscene turning point yet. That explains a lot of what is going on.
