Birthday ???

Okay my birthday is to day and that got me thinking how other people around the globe do the birthday thing?
where i come from we eat cake open presents maybe go out to eat .
what dose every one else do for there birthdays in other places(I live in American) ?

I think you're missing an ending to that sentence, something like "celebrate their birthdays?"

Since you asked, I eat cake, or any other food which happens to be given to me, I open presents, groan at unwanted ones, force a smile, stop forcing smiles when I find something awesome, read cards and then fall asleep.

On notable occasions I've done some fun stuff, like go snowboarding, or, one time, I got to go see Bullet For My Valentine for my birthday party, although that was a few days after my actual birthday.

Oh, and I live in Britain. Not so far away, nor so different.

other things are kind of hazy, it just might be the alcohol.
Point is big party with lots of friends, i'm not a cake person so I don't care about that. Last 3 of my birthdays have been extremely enjoyable.

heh, mine is coming up tomorrow actually ( the 11th)

as a kid I guess you could say I did the stereotypical cake/party thing..... but from about the time I was 14 it was mostly getting cards " usually with decent amounts of cash"...and a free ticket to slack for the day.

now well into my life as an adult and a parent...megh......I still get birthday cards, mostly from parents, in-laws, and such...and still get some extra cash to " pamper myself" but other than that it's just another day...If I work, I work. If it falls on a day I can afford to take the day off ( which Im my boss so no worries there) then my spouse will make sure I get to at least sleep in.

In UK its pretty similar, most of mine are fairly boozy. Dinner with friends then hit a pub or club.

Went to a Mormon's birthday the otherday, so had to behave and there was no drinking. We played party games like musical chairs and things, was surprisingly fun. Everyone got into it, ended with some rather silly dancing. Sounds weird, but was good to act like a six year old again!

i don't really celebrate my birthday. I generally get a call from my parents. If i happen to be with my dad, he'll buy me a beer. Last year i pulled an all nighter for a biology test.....one of the shittier birthdays i have experienced.

Eh. I usually do nothing. Maybe get a card or two from various family members, but I don't go out and celebrate unless my parents want an excuse to get out of the house and have a family dinner somewhere.

Well, I haven't celebrated my birthday since... I turned 15? Probably, I can't even remember anymore. I'm turning 18 this year but I won't be celebrating that either. Though my mum will make a cake and grandparents will give me a gift, friends might give me something at school. That's how it's been for a few years now.

When I was younger though I would invite the whole school (there were only like less than 18 kids at my school so... ^^') to my home and we'd eat a cake, open the presents, play games and... Yeah, play games. -_- It was fun though, I think. I can't really remember anymore.

Oh yeah, and I live in Finland.

Mine is in about a week. Mostly I just get together with family, have dinner and open gifts. Then I go home and hopefully play some new video games... Being a penniless college student isn't always so awesome.
