Look at this video:

What the hell? I knew that that black friday was some sort of sale day, but what that video shows is just insane. Is it this bad everywhere? Also, why are people so crazy about this, are every item something like 90% off? Never seen something like this. Lastly, what do you do on black friday?

Really, Black Friday is only a day for sales. Mostly electronics. Money is still spent, so the deals become kind of moot.

And now I wanna join the Europeans...

Video is called "Black Friday Madness 2012". Video is posted 16 days before Black Friday. Nice work there youtube guy.

Also, #4 on this Cracked article [http://www.cracked.com/article_19572_5-black-friday-myths-media-wants-you-to-believe.html] is relevant. Short version: Just because craziness happens on Black Friday, doesn't mean it's the only time craziness happens, or that the craziness that does happen on Black Friday was even because of it being Black Friday.

Today has been no different than anyother friday. Though technically I bought some shirts online under a Black Friday deal, I chose today because Desert Bus ended yesterday, and I bought some shirts I didn't win from that.

Most Americans won't go shopping on black Friday. The people that do usually do it because of some amazing deal.

No, you do not understand just by looking at a video. Until you stand in a store and watch people beat on each other for a Nook tablet (last night was my first Black Friday not working) you will never truly understand. That said, last night I saw scientific proof that Women are Evil.

The parking lots at Wal-Mart and all attached locations were full to the point that people were parking in the area where spare carts are supposed to be stored. (My father brought his van with a trailer for a Ping-Pong table, and that is all, and he had to do that.) There was a ferocious roar and people dove at the Nook tablets, and some women were like, "I ripped it out of his hands!" They were proud of being vicious jackasses, just six hours after most people had eaten their Thanksgiving meals. Why the fuck do these sales start at 8PM the day before Friday, anyway? Shouldn't we still be thankful for what we have, not greedily consuming shit we don't need at "Insane Savings" in a barbaric way?

It's crazy in certain areas. Last time I participated in Black Friday it was way more chill than this. No injuries that I heard of. For most places it's just a lot of long lines.

I'm as American as it gets and Black Friday sickens me to the point of being physically ill. If terrorists want to nuke us, I would be okay with it if they were doing on Black Friday at a Best Buy or something. At least they'll be killing the fuckasses that deserve it.

The idea of Black Friday just disgusts me. I cannot stand crowds and watching a bunch of people clamor over each other to get some cheap priced crap just makes me physically ill. I'll do my shopping online thank you very much.

We had some kind of black friday down in Mexico last week (buen fin) "good week-end" its kinda the same but they used the days of the revolution (we got a free day at work weee)and people also went crazy, they were buying T.V's like crazy and there were some places offering 2 for 1 in toys and the queues were big as hell.

It was crazy, i didn't buy anything tough...

You know, living in Australia, and Victoria especially like myself, Black Friday has a very different meaning. Different time of year, but still...
Gah, this is just stupid people doing stupid things to buy things. Its kinda sad how quickly people devolve when it comes to a sale. I mean really, most of these people probably don't even need what they're buying, and won't look at it again for another few years, then throw it out but they'll buy it because its on sale. Just... Why...

Whats the death count this year. I assume lower than normal due to tight budgets.
Ha.
I'm just begining to shop online now, way easier.

As an American, I stay away from stores during Black Friday. People get trampled on to death during this time of year.

Besides, I hate being stuck in crowds. >_<

now this is all hypothetical here, but this is how it goes alot of the time:

say you have a family, and you know exactly what all of them want (yourself included), and a rough estimate would put everything at 4000 dollars in the end (pretty unfeasible for most people, am i right?)

now here comes black friday, a day where electronics/shit goes on sale for 70% off when it's brand fucking new, and you can get a 48" 1080p LCD tv for 380 bucks while it's normally 800-900, not to mention all the bundles/gift cards you might get with it.

would you rather A) spend 3000-4000 and not possibly get everything you want

or

B)spend one night/morning in hell and get possibly everything you want for 1000 bucks?

that's people's reasoning in a nutshell, you save massive amounts of time and money while trading it in for stress/frustration at its peak.

I think 'Black Friday' frightens everyone. Some choose to deal with it and go out for deals, others choose to sit on their asses at home and avoid it completely. I choose to avoid it, but I understand why a more frugal person would get out there and put up with the madness for some great deals.

Don't worry, OP, Americans with common sense are just as confused, scared, and/or disgusted at the behavior of these hordes of simians.

On black Friday, I usually stay indoors for the midnight rush or hang out with friends. I would never participate in any of these madhouses, and even if was forced to go, I would never participate in the mob mentality that happens at many US stores (and in your video).

No sale is worth being punched or kicked or trampled over. Wait, that's a bit dishonest. Some sales would totally be worth it, but the risk of death or serious injury is far too high to justify acting like a dangerous fucking idiot in public.

Edit: In conclusion, the sales and stuff are fine, huge crowds of people, whatever. That's not the problem. The problem is that every year people ARE FUCKING KILLED by a giant mob of people. THAT'S where I draw the line.
