When Diablo 3 was released it's issues were widely reported and updated daily on this site. The escapist pulled no punches when reporting on the login delays and connection errors, lack of offline singleplayer etc.
Black Ops 2 just released boasting record pre-sales and half-billion dollar figures, but i've seen no reports on the problems and bizare design decisions for the game, especially on the PC version. Below are a few of the issues facing Blops 2

-Offering nuketown 2025 as a pre-order bonus or as DLC, then REMOVING the map from rotation after a week and implying it's a "special event" map. Below is a link to a facebook petition, this map cost some people $20 extra and now it cant be played online.

-PS3 constant crashing and corrupt files on disc.

-No server browser for PC version. Archaic decision to remove the ability for PC players to host their own dedicated servers. Was featured in Black Ops 1.

-PC multiplayer MM issues that aren't connecting people to local servers. People in groups are waiting literally hours without being able to connect to a game. Known issue acknowledged by Treyarch with no fix as of yet. This compounds the previous issue of lack of dedicated servers as all control is taken out of the hand of the user and instead players are at the mercy of an ambiguous and broken MM system.

This was a AAA, expensive title boasting all sorts of sale records but largely the gaming media has been quite on Treyarchs deception and issues. I'd like to see some sort of front-page article on the escapist because i think the likes of Treyarch and Activision should be held accountable.

Edit: for your convenience Ill include the link to Treyarchs facebook so you can read the hate on there at the time of this posting. A lot fo very unhappy customers.

Most escapists aren't very big fans of the Call of Duty series and don't have any high expectations for the game, if they are planning to play it at all. Conversely most excapists are (or at least were) big fans of the Diablo series, and a lot of people were expecting much more from Diablo III than what they got.

Also, iirc this is the 4th year in a row that we get a slightly altered CoD game that breaks all previous sales records despite any fuck-ups that were made, so everyone's mostly used to it.

The Escapist may not be covering it, but primarily-PS3-fanboy site N4G (a hive of scum and villainy, but a good place to see what is pissing people off currently) has touched on all of these issues.

I feel like the first response already said everything else I would want to say. I wouldn't expect users of this site to be very vocal about CoD compared to more "niche" games like Diablo or Mass Effect, and I guess the reporters think similarly.

There's also the fact that most of these issues are unexpected ones, while the problems with Blizzard were COMPLETELY predicted and easy to keep up with.

Iv'e had absolutely no problems with the game whatsoever on the xbox360 other than it will not automatically load into multiplayer when i turn the game on . It's a tiny 2 second annoyance , nothing worth complaining about . I played 9 hours straight today and have nothing to report . I'd make a terrible QA tester .

It's probably not being covered because the stuff you're talking about happens on a yearly basis with CoD. As they say, it's hardly news when it isn't new.

Slightly off topic, but lol @ people paying $20 for a map.

Well it's not $20 for "a map", but for the super-duper bonus content that no one really cares about except the map. I generally buy every 2nd or 3rd installment of an FPS if i need an FPS itch scratched. Original CoD, first MW, WaW and first Black Ops. I actually believe the first Ops was a pretty fun and satisfying MP game (never played singleplayer of any installment).

It feels backwards that the reporters of the site will jump on and report the "massive record breaking sales" year in and year out likes it's not a tired trend, but the problems associated with the game are "old news" or "expected". More likely it's just lazy cut'n'paste journalism, and an easy page to fill without too much thought.

At least we have regular updates on the twinkie saga. Can't let that be missed.

The sites that are for people who care about the game generally have money in their wallets, in some form or other [Access to review editions], and don't want to criticise CoD for anything.
The rest of the internet simply doesn't care because this happens every year. We saw it last year, the year before, the year before that and the year before that. No-one is waiting in massive anticipation for the next CoD, but people were waiting a number of years years [10 I think, or was that SC2...] for Diablo 3, so it creates a much bigger ripple with its problems because people actually care.

But no original FPS such as Metro 2033, Hard Reset, etc? Interesting.

The issues in the OP should really be reported on this website and elsewhere, it is the biggest release of the year after all.

Freezes, sounds beeing replaced with horrid beeps, even crashes in Single Player.

Only problem i face in Online Multiplayer is frakkin' idiots, blasting away in team-based objective matches.
Go play DeathMatch, you frakhats.

Zombies is too meh for playing.

What? Who spent $20 for a map? You got Nuketown 2025 if you bought the standard edition or Harden Edition+, so who ever spent $20 on a map got ripped. Which meant they got the Harden Edition which they got the zombie map, soundtrack, and a bunch of other goodies.

This kind of goes together, there is dedicated servers, it's like Gears of War 3, you get put into a server rather then choosing. I actually heard some PC gamers like this because apparently there was a lot of stupid Blops 1 servers and not many that played the game as it meant to.

No major issues to report, apart from a few minor ones. (Xbox 360)

When picking attachments for my weapons in the campaign, my game freezes for about 2 seconds every time I move the cursor. It makes navigating through the attachment rather annoying.

And I have some strange form of lag that consistently pops up in multiplayer when the score limit has almost been reached. Shooting and ammo count act up and walking becomes dodgy for half a minute or so, then goes back to normal. It seems to be only me though, and my Xbox makes strange sounds whenever it occurs so I suspect that this is a problem on my part.

Playing on pc.

Multiplayer is fine, and very enjoyable with friends.

Singleplayer...I get a recurring crash. The beginning of the 2nd mission. Apparently a problem unique to 500 series cards. It's fairly irritating. Pull the finger out and patch it please.
