If you read the message of any Joe schmo with a message board account, you've likely come across the idea that recent Call of Duty games have become extremely stale annual installments, with Activision raking in their yearly Modern Warfare paycheck while putting laughably little innovation and interesting gameplay changes on the table to keep people coming back for more. I played Modern Warfare 2, and was harshly disappointed at the lackluster campaign with it's on rails action, and quite possibly the least enjoyable and frustrating multiplayer experience I've ever known with gaming, however, my interest was piqued with Black ops, since quite a few screenshots and interviews indicated that it was going to change up a few things and make Call of Duty interesting again. Intrigued, I bought it, and I actually didn't leave the single player campaign angry and bitter. Treyarch did a good job, and while I didn't leave the campaign happy or with renewed belief in good storytelling, it was a step forward in the right direction for the franchise, and I wanted to see where Treyarch took the franchise from this point forward.

Modern Warfare 3 came and went and I hardly even noticed. From what I've heard (haven't bought/played the game myself), it was a tumble down a flight of stairs backwards in the wrong direction after what Treyarch did with Black Ops though. Offering more of the same and little to nothing new.

Well, Treyarch is now releasing their second Call of Duty game, and when I first heard that it was going to be a direct sequel to Black Ops, I naturally recognized a rather familiar call of duty pattern when it came to direct and numbered sequels, and I instantly became this Fry.

However, it looks like Treyarch is getting even more ambitious with Black Ops 2 then they did with the first one, and they actually understand what a sequel is supposed to do rather then rake in the cheddar due to brand recognition. We're talking about a storyline based off a genuinely compelling concept and idea, branching plotlines based on your decisions/skill, some missions can be failed without sending you into a fail-state, meaning that the story is dramatically effected if you botch a mission, multiple paths in some missions, STRAIGHT OUT SANDBOX missions where you accomplish your objectives in any order you want, the potential to govern over your units like you're playing a mini-RTS, and much more.

Now, my Fry is slowly starting to change, but if news like this continues to come down the tube and it turns out to be legit, I'll gladly and proudly put in $60 to get my hands on this game. I'm not sold just yet, since the game is so early in development that they could literally advertise anything they wanted and it wouldn't make a bit of difference, but the signs of ambition have got me very, very interested. I'll be keeping an eye on any future Black Ops 2 information and news as it is released.

Anyway, what do you guys make of this? Are you laughing at me for actually holding out hope of real interest and innovation for the CoD franchise again? Are you going to buy it anyway? Are you in that same middle ground of mild interest as me? What do you think this game will actually be when it comes out? What will it accomplish and what would this mean for Activision and Infinity Ward if it sells the predicted bajillions of copies that pre-order sales are already indicating?

Thank you, and have a good day.

I'm actually slightly interested in this one. But not for $90, and not if it's going to have a field of view fixed at "give PC gamers migraines".
