2017 is a weird year, it seems, as yesterday, Treyarch offically announced a new, fifth DLC for Black Ops 3.
Yes, a DLC for a Call of Duty, that's more than a year old with the next one released already and the one AFTER that also already announced. It's the end of the world, ladies and gentlemen!

Or maybe Treyarch is just drunk, collectively. Who knows. I mean, they apparently have one guy use a military truck as a communiter vehicle. No, really.

Anyways, Zombies Chronicles.
What is it? Zombie maps, obviously. Eight of them, in total. Yes, EIGHT! Not one, four or five. EIGHT!
Specifically, all the maps from World at War until Black Ops 2 that use the Original crew in some form (including Nacht der Untoten and Verr?ckt).
From World at War
* Nacht der Untoten
* Verr?ckt
* Shi No Numa
From Black Ops 1
* Kino der Toten
* Ascention
* Shangri-La
* Moon
From Black Ops 2
* Origins

For those wondering where Der Riese is from WaW, that's already released stand-alone as The Giant.

The release date? May the 16th, on PS4. PC and XBox is unknown so far, but presumably on June the 13th. Price is currently not revealed, but Treyarch is doing a live stream next Monday to talk about more details. Watch the reveal video for yourself:

And as special bonus, for those that are into that kind of thing, they also revealed the entire timelime of Treyarch Zombies, in form of a poster. Think that it was too hard if impossible to read? Don't worry, Treyarch got you covered: https://www.callofduty.com/zombieschronicles

So, there we go: The second Zombies-Only DLC in CoD history, the first DLC announced after the end of the one-year-life-cycle, and announced for this month.
Just thought I should spread this kind of news, as The Escapist themselves seem not to care too much.

Oh. I thought they were just releasing a standalone title with all of the zombies maps since World at War on it. I'd actually buy that, to be honest, at about 25-40 pounds maybe, even if they are old.

There might be a stand-alone version sold retail for consoles.

Still, I'm excited. Rezurrection was one of the best DLCs that happened to Black Ops 1 and that was also just old Zombie Maps (plus Moon), giving that game a whooping 10 maps. Black Ops 3 is going to have a total of 14 with this pack, including most of the best ones, only Mob of the Dead being absent then.

Got to admit, it also had quite a bit of style how they revealed it - not with a giant show or with a trailer. Nope, just a guy showing his T-Shirt. Incredible low-key and yet seemed to attract as much attention as the WW2 reveal the week prior, if not more.
And the release of the official timeline as one giant poster? People are going nuts!

I mean, the idea of playing a polished version of the World at War maps (particularly Shi No Numa) really appeals to me.

But as for the existence of the DLC, yeah it raises some questions on the state of the series. It's more than a bit peculiar that they're going back to the well of a previous instalment rather than focus on the current and upcoming one. Maybe it's a show of ill faith in either "Infinite Warfare" and its DLC, or the upcoming game?

Zombies is one of my favourite parts of the entire franchise as it is arguably the most interactive and variable aspect of it, so I'd be happy to play this. Though I admit I play it only with my friend who is the one who buys these things.

I wish they would just sell Zombies on its own...cause I fucking hate Zombies mode, and it has stopped me from 100% anymore CoDs...

Just goes to show; Infinite Warfare is pretty much done already. Both BO3 and MWR have more players than it does, and IW got dumped on. Hell, BO3 is just an objectively better game than IW - makes sense they'd keep supporting BO3 until at least WW2 comes out.

Apparently that DLC was planned even before IW was released, so that's not really it.
