Normally I just lurk on here reading but last nights outing in the Black Ops multiplayer has driven me to post. Now just to be clear im a very average player but I do enjoy playing if the sides are equally matched. Playing with two friends on a Demolition match on Nuketown last night showed up just how broken the matchmaking is.
The first round was OK, we were dying a lot but still holding our own and managed to plant and detonate both bombs. The second and third rounds however consisted entirely of our team spawning and dying constantly as we were pummelled by attack choppers, Hueys and Napalm strikes constantly. Looking at the scoreboard at the end proved just how mismatched the teams were.
So I guess the question im asking is why does there appear to be no proper matchmaking system in place in the multiplayer?
Am i the only one who feels matches like this completely destroy any incentive for average players to play?

Your taking issue with the matchmaking not pairing people properly in terms of skill right? As true as that as, and as much as I agree with you, thats hardly the biggest problem with black ops matchmaking, it takes 3 times as long as modern warfare, crashes constantly, is almost completely incapable of managing a party of more than 2 people, sometimes not even two, the system in general is just falling to pieces.

I would love to stop getting spawn camped by chopper gunners and people hiding in shadows and corners shooting me in the dick every time I twitch, but I would prefer to be able to get into a friggin game more -.-.

What Im getting at is, It would kick ass for every match to be balanced, but if the current condition of the servers is any indication, we arent likely to get a matchmaking system that can handle much easier problems, heres for hoping though right? :)

Edit: Thats also just kind of how things turn out in call of duty sometimes, the game can shift VERY heavily in one persons/teams favor for no apparent reason other than dumb luck, its a gift and curse depending on which side of the 10 foot long steel rod of online gaming your on.

So you're complaining about mismatched teams in a CoD game?

Sorry to beak it to you, but Black Ops isn't the first game in the series to have that problem. Hell, this has been around since the series first began. Plus, Treyarch stated that they didn't put in skill-based/level-based matchmaking since it would make it take longer for the game to find online lobbies, and since it takes extremely long to find a lobby in it's current state I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want it to take even longer just to put you in a group with people of a similar level.

I play on Xbox Live and although I know what your talking about with finding a lobby. It definetly takes longer than MW or MW2 to find a lobby but I havent found the wait to be too long. maybe ive just been lucky.
I would happily wait a bit longer between matches if it was paired up with similar skill levels. Would even suggest that the KD ratio of say your previous 5 matches determined the game you joined. Surely you would agree that the best games you have played are where both teams are balanced and there is some genuine ebb and flow to the combat in the match?
Perhaps its just sour grapes on my part :)
