So this is the first news article I see this morning:

http://a.msn.com/01/en-us/AAc1hru?ocid=sf

How could someone not know that?

She found out when she tracked down her biological parents. I look forward to a day when something like this is no different than someone finding out their hair color was really red and not blonde. Stuff like this always brings out the racists, especially in the anonymous comments on some of those sites. It shouldn't matter the "color" of someone's skin.

EDIT: I misunderstood - she KNEW she was adopted but did not find out until she found her biological parents.

Are you sure this isn't an Onion thing? 'cause this is one of those those stories too stupid to be anything but fake.

I mean 70 years. I simply, literally, don't believe her. She has to be lying for attention.

Well, she has some features that lean toward black, and if you're adopted by a couple, one of whom is black, and are never told you were adopted, then yeah... I can see her taking it at face value. I reckon it's gonna get pretty fucking awkward for her now though around whatever black friends she might have, especially in the current American climate.

Also obligatory...

So, I'm going to assume that the majority of posters who said "She's clearly white" are not apart of Black Families and haven't been really be exposed to all the shades we come in.

People often think I'm mixed. Both my parents are black.

It just seems the African American Phenotype is just the most varied of all races.

Black people do come in different shades of brown, you know. Like my sister and I. Both black but shes often seen as mixed race. We have different dads and he had very light brown skin and he's Haitian.

Yeah this comes up after that lady from the NAACP. But seriously. Lady. If you hung around blackpeople you knew there was a difference. I'm sorry, but unless you never looked in a mirror or looked at your own hands. Yeah. Sorry. If you black you know you black.

Hopefully people are a bit understanding of how this situation differs from Rachel Dolezal.

Hell, I'm from one of the whitest states in the US and I could have told you that. I'm wondering if they're clueless by something other than accident.

Not just that! All her government paper, all her applications, licences, social security, insurances, ALL of the paperwork acquired over a 70 year life time, it ALL said African American and no one ever asked questions? No police officer ever looked at her license picture and was like "Nope." The DMV issued her shit and never questioned? The census bureau just let her be?

Or alternatively, all her paperwork says Caucasian and she never looked at any of it.

Her story simply isn't believable.

Some black people actually have very pale skin to the point that they are actually "whiter" than a lot of white people.

Anybody watch "Malcolm X"? Malcom's mother is half white and half black but basically just looks exactly like a white woman (and really hates that fact)

... still this is pretty hilarious and hard to believe but if it is completely true then it just gives us another reason to release that it shouldn't bloody matter!
