Alright I think religion is about as evil and wrong as you can get but on the other hand I think something like Blasphemy day is just wrong.
in case this has slipped you by its a holiday with festivals and everything celebrating atheistism (not sure how to spell that) but I think this is the wrong way to do this. if you want to stop people from following the path of god then it should be from person to person rather than from shoving it in our faces because then were just hypocrites. anyway at least we don't not on doors.
your thoughts?

Every time some English-butchering, atheistic scumbosaurus comes out against religion on an internet forum, I re-discover a little more of my lost faith.

It seems a little too much.
But if people are passionate about religion, I don't see why people can't be passionate against it.
People have the freedom to do it, so more power to them, that doesn't mean I'll be celebrating along with them though.

Out of curiosity, when is Blasphemy Day? I've never even heard of it...

But if it's just Blasphemy, then it doesn't really mean they're trying to make people stop believing, it's just having a bit of harmless fun, after all, it is the victimless crime.

I don't think the point of a blasphemy day is to try and convert people en-masse, so much as it's probably a day for atheists to have a little bit of fun as atheists. I see no harm in that.

Considering how much theist propaganda I have to endure, I'm not about to start complaining to the atheists that they're being too assertive.

It's not really about religion, it's just about Blasphemy Day.
And just out of curiosity, why are we still not mature enough to have a rational discussion about religion, and if we try there's always a large threat of being banned/suspended. Also 90% of the posts in it are "I'm putting on my shield" or something along those lines. All it does is encourage flaming.

Why must religion be off limits?

Is this another bullshit day intended to get people to by cards? If not, I intend to cash in and make it one. I'm going to make cards with the message "Blasferme, Blasferyou". Maybe sell little bags of granite for people to chuck at each other, like biblical confetti...

Really, it sounds like it could be alot of fun. It's all cool as long as there is a blasphemous BBQ.

I'll have to ask a couple of friends about this and why I have been in the hole when this happened.

mostly because on either side someone is going to say some dickish things and its gonna piss someone off. the gravity and the domino theory kicks the threads ass and becomes closed.

Well, this seems annoying. I honestly can't stand overly passionate idiots. Religious or not, they're the ignorant ones. Not only can they detrimental to society, they're annoying to listen to. I enjoy being around atheists and religious people, I just can't stand zealots of any stripe. They only ever talk about themselves and what they think of society and how it should be or why it's bad. It gets annoying.

Why does everyone have a dyslexia. Dyslexia is the over all distortion of imformation, not just being unable to spell properly, though that can be a side effect.

Even stil, you can use spell check.

OT: It's shit like this that make me glad I am a Haruhist.

This gets brought up everytime there is a "religious" thread, but in over a year on this site I've yet to see a single "flame war" break out over religion on here.

OT: I don't really feel a need to have a blasphemy day, it's not like I refran from it on a daily basis and can only let go once a year. Although I do tend to take God's name in vain whenever I see a "Bond tegen het vloeken" (Anti swearing league) billboard, mostly just to spite them.

Because religion is Serious Business, and everyone knows that their God is the only one and hence everyone who doesn't believe it is both morally wrong and going to burn in Hell when they die. Which may or may not be when some True Believer decides it's just faster to kill them than convert them.

Blasphemy is basically another name for thought crime, challenging Sacred Ideas that must always be held to be true, and it is a crime to even question them. That leads to a lack of freedom of speech - see the Danish cartoon riots and the trial of Parwiz Kambakzh, who recently recieved a 20 year sentence for writing an article that questioned the role of women is Islam. The worst part? The 20 year sentence was originally a death sentence which was commuted. This is exactly what Blasphemy Day is against, as it wants to open up religious ideas and religious thought to intellectual criticism, in spite of the crushing anti-intellectualism that musters in religious extremism.

Or at least, that's what Blasphemy Day's website tells me. And you're a heretic if you question it.
