Recently got Continuum Shift and was wondering if anyone else likes/is a fan of the series, and what characters/aspects of it you like. Im enjoying the game a lot but Im a noob to the whole series.(starting to play a lot more fighting games) My favourite character so far is Taokaka, love the speed and style of her moves!

Jin all the way.

Well, that's coz he is the only character I can win with.

Hazama is the best character story wise. And Rachael is awesome!

Been a fan for over 2 years now, really like this series.

If you're into deep fighting games you'll have a lot to love and even if you're not the game goes to extreme lengths to teach you how to play it, just don't use beginner mode and you'll be set.

What's your psn? If you're up for some brutal training we can play when(if :p) the psn is back up.

The escapist seems to have a reasonably sized Blazblue fan base, and overall it is a well regarded game. Everyhing from music, controls, visuals, and mechanics are well executed and so damn fun.

As a Guilty Gear fan, this game was a no brainer to get....even if it's sort of Guilty Gear lite. I main Hakumen, with Jin as my secondary and once i get my hands on Continuum Shift then I'll pick up Hazama as a 3rd alt.

I loved Hakumen because his play style just worked for me, and I guess it sort of was a no brainer as one of my main fighters in Guilty Gear was Baiken who has the same general concept. Both of em have simple and yet complex play styles that have counter based combat built into them. Hakumen is powerful, managing his meter to maximize damage takes patience, skill, and thought. And also he just looks so fucking cool, I love his design and his pure badassery.

The story mode shocked me a bit, quite dark, especially concerning Noel... I have't got to Tao's story mode yet.

Be sure to get into the prequel as the story in continuum shift is a direct sequel and the intro of it doesn't do the 20+ stories in CT justice.

The story mode is incredibly detailed, Its quite hard to grasp at times and Im working my way through it, also I have it on Xbox but I might pick it up for PS3 too as I want a Fighting game for downstairs (Xbox is in the gaming room!)

Let me quickly summarize my feelings about the game:

+The name is stupid, but not as stupid as the way they attempt to explain it.

+Most of the characters are generic anime tropes, so not much creativity there.

+And the in game animations are so pointlessly flashy it's like they think if the vision parts of our brains aren't constantly stimulated we'll go into comatose. I'm serious, just do one simple move and look how many corny particle effects that explode out of it.

But other then that, it's pretty good.

I got calamity trigger for the PSP and it's boat loads of fun. and the multiplayer is dead -_-
and the story mode is great. Jin Kisarage and Litchi Fey-ling a the two I play most, and it goes without saying unlocked Jin is fucking broken.
...The multiplayer is dead because the PSP version only supports local multiplayer and has no infrastructure mode. But yes, Unlimited Jin is evil and pretty cheap; although he's still nowhere near as broken as Unlimited Ragna.

Jins AI pisses me off the most though as it's probably the closest to button reading I've experienced in the game. He just LOVES to exploit the invincibility frames on violent ice and blizzard *RAGE*, so you gotta keep fooling him into whiffing.

Its one of my favorite all time games. Still properly not as good as GGXX but very good. Its easy to get started and very very difficult to master.

The "blazblue" is just the name of the azure madosho that Ragna uses, it's not stupid at all lol. As for the characters, they're not anime tropes, they're parodying generic anime tropes, trust me, there's a huge difference between the two. As for the effects, that's just detail man, most games have a whole progression of events to put stuff up on, fighters only have the fights themselves, they're just doing the honest work of making a detailed game as though it would be an rpg. After a while you barely even notice the absurdity factor and the over-stylized moves become typical.

You can use adhoc party on psp and play folks online but the thing is that this game isn't really meant for the psp. The controls are way off.

Quite a fan of Rachel's capacity for controlling the battlefield. Otherwise, I'm big on Litch Faye-Ling; that staff is a wonderful way to make players paranoid.

I'm aware of that, but if you don't have a PS3 or can't get Xlink to work you are shit out of luck. As for the controls, it works fine on the PSP; the system has a perfectly fin D-pad and executing attacks with it is no trouble after you get used to it (save for 360's and 720s, but those are hardly used unless you are Tager). Saying otherwise is complete nonsense as it plays identical to its console counter part making the transition virtually non-existant.

Actually, there is a manga, you can get it off of the Aksys store. It's nothing big mind you, just a few funny stories, nothing big or plot-changing. Typical Makoto losing her underwear and Tsubaki having to ask Jin for them, you know, funny stuff :p.

That "get used to it" factor is the problem, if you're to get used to something, might as well go for an arcade stick which is going to make you into a better player too, the psp controls don't add anything but require work in order to not be worse off for using them, that's a problem in my book.

You don't NEED a stick to be good at the game, and the it's hardly a problem "getting used to" D-pad or whatever. If you can't the problem lies more within the player and less the controls. Not everyone wants to shell out money for a stick, and it doesn't automatically make you a better player as there are great players that actually prefer the alternate method.

I find sticks too loose sometimes so there tends to be that error factor of overshooting your point. Now a simple octagon gate solves that problem well, but seeing as I don't use characters that do 360s or 720s, sticks have no real advantage over D-pad for me.

If you can play the game just fine with the PS3 controller, the PSP is identical. Only time controls have ever been a problem is with the 360s shitty D-pad and that's it. You may be too accustomed to using an arcade stick to really understand, but whatever.

Naming you're entire video game after the weapon used by ONE of the characters, which in itself has it's own pointless name when you can just call it a flipping sword? Yeh, it's stupid.

If those characters are parodies, then they're the bad kind of parodies that just do exactly what they're trying to make fun of without actually making fun of them. I'm all for making fun of generic anime characters, but I'd prefer some real creativity.

It seems to me like the flashy particle effects are only there to cover up sub-par animation. Just look at a game like the new Mortal Kombat reboot, the fighting is both fluid and fun to watch but doesn't have to rely on cheap 2D effects clogging up the screen to look impressive. They even get creative with the new x-ray moves that utilize complex character models that literally contain simulated muscles, bones and organs.

But like I said it's a good game, the gameplay is full of cool, creative ideas that make it shockingly complex and original.

Never said you needed it, all I said is if you're to get used to something, might as well get used to the undeniably more precise of the two options. It won't make you good if you suck but using certain characters like Litchi or Carl, ones who need of you to hold one button down while pressing others, they're going to be considerably easier to play well with it. Also teching throws and instant blocking becomes far easier too, since your fingers are always above the buttons you need to press to tech, which means it takes less time for you to tech throws on reaction.

As for the ps3 controller, the way you hold that isn't the same as the psp, the d-pads differ quite a bit too oh and you have 2 less shoulder keys, some chars like Arakune or Carl would be quite a bit harder to use and the other ones would still take some adjusting. Calamity Trigger has remote play so I tried it, trust me, the psp controls nothing like a dual shock (back then I didn't use an arcade stick either).
