Blizzard Bringing Plush Pets to WoW Players

World of Warcraft [http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Pc/dp/B000067FDW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278969746&sr=1-3] players will soon have the option to snuggle up to their avatar's pet in real life.

Blizzard is adding two new pets to its store as The Gryphon Hatchling and Wind Rider Cub join the L'il K.T. and the Pandaren Monk. Instead of the digital download to simply receive your pet in-game, however, Blizzard is shipping plush versions of the Gryphon or Wind Rider, along with an avatar-bound code that will give your character access to the pet in the game.

The two original pets were each $10, with the Pandaren's purchase giving part of the proceeds to the Make-a-Wish foundation. Although as of yet there is no confirmed price for the new pet and plushie combination, the L'il K.T. and the Pandaren both went for $10, so it seems reasonable to assume the new pets may be a bit pricier. There is also no word as to if the purchases will be tied to any charitable donations like the initial pet release was.

No word yet as to any specific release dates, but the pets will be available to both Alliance and Horde players. Naturally, they have no in-combat application beyond being absolutely adorable.

Cute, but none of these toys can hold a candle to the self-awareness of the plush Murloc!

GO plush Murloc! Continue being useless!

I'd like a plush Mr Chilly, that's the best pet I have, not the rarest though.

If you do. You should totally send me the code for the in-game pet!

I'd love you forever!

Of course it will be more expensive: physical things incorporating cloth and stuffing, along with the process of producing them, cost more to Blizzard than having a digital modeller, an animator, and a texture artist spend a couple of hours slapping together zeros and ones in a certain order.

My guess is they'll probably go for around $35. $10 for the digital portion and $25 for the plushie.

OMFG I want that Windrider. I never thought I would want to buy an ingame pet...but that thing is way too damn cute. Kinda funny though....I think the in-game wyvern is cuter than the gryphon, but the plushies are reverse.

It seems Blizzard continues to generate jobs in China.

But I don't see the point. Sure, they look cute, but what stuffed pet doesn't? :p So they'll only have their fanbase left, which I somehow doubt consists of children below 10. Ah well, they've proven right with their business methods in the past, they'll probably make money again.

I'd buy one for myself. Oh come on it'd go well in my office. Heck I have a Gengar Figurine, Chris Redfield a few random figures that were painted a blind kid with Downs Syndrome (me) and a gryphon plushie could tie things in.
