I had a friend who had a plausible theory (said friend enjoys the entire collection of related media - books, movies, games, etc). He pointed out that Fett was told "No disintegrations" by Vader implying he had a history of disintegrating people, which was awesome.

Most of the legitimate reasons people might point to in defense of his awesomeness came LONG after he was introduced in the movies. All that said, my own suspicion is a combination of the above AND the simple fact that he probably made a badass action figure. Who wanted Luke when you got a guy with a jetpack that shot projectiles?

He looks badass, and due to the fact that he hardly ever said anything, there's an air of mystery around him. People like that sort of thing.

The mystery!
Which is why I never like them revealing more about him

I love mysterious characters

Isn't there some sort of compulsory warning before you link to TvTropes?

There probably should be, I apologize.

Strong Silent type with awesome armor and talks back to vader and lives to tell about it
And he got killed by a blind man with a stick.

By accident.

Shameful.

And nobody come back with that crap about him digging his way out and being a best man at a wedding or whatever. If anyone says that I swear you will never know the touch of a woman.

I preferred Jango. That's entirely due to Star Wars Bounty Hunter, the only Star wars game I've ever enjoyed... even though I sucked major balls at it.

It was the jet-pack plus twin blasters for me. Nearest thing to a space cowboy I felt.
That game was so awesome and I prefer Jango as well probably because I can... Sorry.

OT: I think it's because of the helmet the thing looks frikken awesome.

Oh that game was awesome!

I agree with the OP. Never really understood it. But the idea of him is cool. So many weapons in a suit. Still, I had the action figure for a different bounty hunter. Bossk!

LIKE A BOSSK!

Yeah... Boba Fett was cooler.
My brother had Boba Fett and I had Bossk. While Boba Fett from the original trilogy is a cool bounty hunter, I also liked Bossk. Anything Boba Fett is in outside of the first 3 movies, I don't like.

The reason he is so popular is that the out of the "Toy" line he was the most detailed and badass looking of the character models, in the early nineties a mint condition Boba Fett fetched up to 400 dollars, the AT AT was valued at 200 dollars.

I've still got alot of the original toys and even a C3P0 from 1976 which my cousin gave to me, Boba Fett went missing after someone found out how much he was worth and the toys such as the B Wing and X Wing have been spray painted gold by my crazy father and the rest have been destroyed by my nephews... including a tip ex's and scratched C3P0.

...Thanks boys.

He argues with Vader. He is a self-secure loner in the midst of ruthless criminals living under a despotic empire.

I figure he has some of the professional/role qualities as Han, with the exception that his position comes from fighting/cruelty rather than escapes/wit.
