My wife and I are rabid readers. Before we go to sleep, we each spend a minimum of 1/2 an hour pouring through the pages of our latest find. Here the problem though, we've kinda tapped out our collection. I'm a bit more adventurous than her, in that I'm not afraid to pick a book off the shelf and give it a shot. She, on the other hand, is extremely wary of any book that hasn't heard of or been suggested to her. so, I need your help with some book reccomendations.

Her all time favorite author is undoubtedly Anne Rice. However, she's also read George R R Martin, Dan Brown, Dean Koontz, some Stephen King. She was actually desperate enough for a book that she read through my entire R A Salvatore "Drizzt" books. She's not looking for something thought provoking neccesarily, it's more about escapism for her. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A picture of dorian grey by oscar wild.

If she likes Anne Rice shell go for it. Its well written, based in victorian times with a supernatural twist. Its got a lot to say about morality and decadence.

The Forgotten Realms series is pretty good, even if R. A. Salvatore isn't the author of all of them. That is, if you don't have them all already.

I could also recommend "The Highwayman", which is another book by Salvatore, and has at least one sequel, the name of which I can't remember....

Disc World series by Terry Pratchett
Start with Colour of Magic and work your way through them

Very funny and clever
I second this.

Also, Good Omens. It's not in the Disc World series, but it has the same feel since it's by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman I think. One of the best books I've read in a while.

Trudi Canavan's, "The Black Magician" trilogy, a very good set of books.

Also Elizabeth Moon's, "Vatta's War" series, also very good.

As a successor to Anne Rice, the "Anita Blake" series by Laurel K. Hamilton are really good (for a while). She'd probably enjoy everything through about the eighth book (after that it's mostly, if not entirely, smut). The degeneration of book titles might give you a tip off, given that the latest in that series is "Skin Trade". Those, though, aren't as bad (smut-wise) than the Meredith Gentry books.

She might also enjoy the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Great dialogue, humor, and pacing. All of the characters are well-written, and the overarching plot is compelling. Magic in a modern setting, but written like a film noir.

Doktor Katz prescribes much Mark Twain, combined vis double-doses of The Dark Tower (Sorry if that has been mentioned). If that does not vurk, zen try a few novels off of the NY Times Bestseller list. In many cases, crap. In other cases, awesome.

let me think...

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (a work in progress)

The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind

The Three Worlds Trilogy by Ian Irvine (start with 'The View from the Mirror Quartet')

anything by Garth Nix

His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman (but who HASN'T read them?)

The Power of Five by Anthony Horrowitz

they're the ones that spring to mind immediatly (and they're on the bookshelf directly over my desk). the problem with them is that most of them are fat books (at least 2 inches thick), and series like Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth and The Three Worlds Trilogy are at least 10 books long (WoT=12, with the last coming out this autumn, SoT+ tTWT, 11 books each)
i likes me them fantasy epics

ok she thinks Anne Rice is great but got desperate to read RA Salvatore? sorry that's a step up frankly, Anne Rice is not a very good author and her vampire books got worse as time went on, not to mention how bad both Koontz and King are

as for books that haven't been recommended the Wicked years by Geoffry Maguire, the Dexter Series by Jeff Lindsay, anything by Neil Gaiman and some Phillip K Dick, American Psycho by Brent Easton Ellis and also Rules of Attraction
