I am working on my thesis right now and its to do with bacterial and viral spread of infections. And i am bored oot my nut about thinking and talking about it.

So what i need is an interesting and exciting book/game/movie about over the top, highly exaggerated bacteria or virus based action to regain my intrest. Doesn't have to be a work of literary genius but a decent story and action and i'm happy with it. Any suggestions?

(it could include any form of virus so if there's a decent zombie book out there then go for it)

The movie Outbreak [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outbreak_(film)] is pretty good. Not sure about the science, but its got action and a decent story.

The Stand, by Stephen King. It's THE "omg there's a massive pandemic get in the car" novel for me, and the unabridged version is a classic.

EDIT: Whee, 500th post.

I don't know if these books quite count but I like them a lot:

Prey by Michael Crichton: A swarm of nano-bots go not-nice and start attacking people

The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro: Think "28 Days Later" except you turn into a vampire-like creature. I would HIGHLY recommend this series, I took a chance when I got a free book and am now anxiously waiting for the third book.

This this this and more this. We watched this in my 9th grade health class and it became a school-wide hit. Apparently it does every year.

To both Andromeda Strain and Outbreak, read the books, they are much better than the films from a detail and information standpoint. It's less about Hollywood thrills and more with the author's story.

'I am Legend' is better as a book, but if you want to watch it, also watch 'The Last Man on Earth' with Vincent Price and 'Omega Man' with Charelton Heston, both are film versions of I am Legend. Last man on earth is black and white from the 50's, Omega man is from the 60's.

Year Zero is kind of iffy, bad science in my opinion and kinda dodgy story...but it's...something.

Executive Orders has an excellent portion when it comes to biowarfare, perhaps not a doomsday plague, but still good.

World War Z, just for mental relaxation, it's still a viral plague, even if it is technically Zombies.
