Guys. Today is a sad day. I knew Borders went bankrupt ages ago, but I always thought there would be investors or someone to bail them out of it.
Apparently not.
The Borders Group, the bankrupt 40-year-old bookseller, said on Monday that it will move to liquidate after no last-minute savior emerged for the company.
Out of all the bookstores that I go to, Borders was my favorite. When I was younger,I would visit the states and the top 3 places I would want to go to is Walmart, Gamestop and of course, Borders. (All of them don't exist outside the US >.>) I could spent ages in the large stores roaming from aisle to aisle, grabbing book after book to read. It's where I gained a whole new appreciation for books.
I know there are other bookstores like Barnes and Nobles and (I suppose) Virgin, but Borders was a part of my childhood and it's sad to see it go :/
Plus, I feel bad for all the employees that are going to get laid off.
Is there Borders near you that's closing?

This makes me so sad :( I loved going into the giant Borders at Westfield Kotara and just looking at all the books.

I hope this doesn't mean the end of Chapters in Canada, I always really liked those stores.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! This really truly sucks. He have a few here and it was always fun to just go and peruse the aisles to see what you could find. And they always had really interesting bargain books. With all the Hastings around here dropping like flies and libraries closing where the hell am I gonna get new books?

I'm really upset. The only bookstore near me (that isn't Half-Priced) is Barnes and Noble and it's a fifteen-twenty minute drive. ugh. I love Borders and I'm sad to see them go.

Borders existed over here in the UK also, and was the best shop to just go into and browse, reading the books inside, even studying in the basement part of the shop. It closed near me and was replaced by a local supermarket which sucks =[

It was replaced with a jersey shore esque clothing store at my local mall.

Idiocracy has struck again.

walmart and gamestop exsist outside the U.S theres a gamestop in the mall like ten minutes away from me and theres a walmart like 10-15 min. away. silly americans. also being canadian there are (to my knowledge) no borders up here it honestly hasn't struck that badly. also if there is not a gamestop in a country then look for EB games cuz there literally gamestop in a new title.

Great... Borders was one of my favorite stores as well, and I went there quite a lot when I was young. It's like Gamecrazy all over again. Oh well, I haven't bought much from them recently anyways. I've been too poor to afford books. That does suck though.

And the Barnes & Noble Monopoly is complete.
Barring a smattering of novelty bookstores, there is nobody else in my region now.

In Canada we have plenty of Gamestops and Walmarts... where do you live? lol. We don't have boarders, but we have Chapters and stuff at least.

Border closed down in Chicago like a year ago, I was surprised it didn't close down sooner, way too many people treating it like a library rather than a bookstore, and to be honest Borders is kind of to blame for that. Yes it is good to set up a policy to let people read and feel comfortable but people end up just reading in the store and even some end up wearing out some books and that is a loss on both parts for the store.
The sad part is that actual libraries suffered because of this, I went to my local library and they have somewhat of a crappy/random collection of newer stuff because they just had such a lack of interest for years.

Edit: Looking at the OP's country, didn't know the Indonesian flag was just the opposite of the Polish flag...learn something new every day.

So no more Borders, and Half Price books just shut down here in Austin, I guess that just leaves Barnes & Noble. Oh well, I like those. They usually have a Gamestop and a Starbucks attached.
