Brand new Thundercats

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

So, I've just watched the premiere of the new Thundercats from last night and I've got say that I absolutely loved it!

I'm a big fan of the original series - even though it hasn't aged particularly well and comes across as quite cheesy when I watch it now - but the opening episode of this re-imagining was just pure awesomeness.

I'm glad to see that Cartoon Network took the 'Batman: Arkham Asylum' approach to making this new version - i.e. showing respect for the source material whilst making it accessible to those who don't have any previous experience of the show.

The animation was great, voice acting very good, characters are good as well - nice to see that Tigra has a more of a role in this version and his sibling rivalry with Lion-O adds an extra layer of conflict to the narrative.

I'm glad that it's going to be a slow burning story, with the Thundercats forming over several episodes rather than appearing as a team already and the initial separation of Sci-Fi and Fantasy was an interesting plot choice that paid off, especially when the lizards attack Thundera with their mechs which was a brilliant scene.

The high point (for me at least) was when Lion-O did the 'Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, THUNDERCATS HO!' call with the Sword of Omens in a perfect recreation from the original series

So overall, this was a good as I'd hoped for from the new Thundercats and it's nice to see a beloved 80's childhood show not butchered and bum-raped *cough* Transformers *cough* and it was also great to hear the original Lion-O, Larry Kenney, pass the torch onto the new voice actor Will Freidle.

What are everyone else's thoughts then? Loved it? Hated it? or not fussed?

PS- nice to see that Snarf isn't a whiny ***** anymore

Thank God Snarf can't/doesn't talk in this series.

Now that that's out of the way, yes, I liked it a lot. I'm glad my optimism towards it wasn't ill-placed.

Though I do hate that Panthro is apparently dead, though I somehow doubt he really is.

In short, I liked it.

Sucks I missed it. I'll have to pick it up. Love me some Thundercats. One thing though, can you guys tell me who's on the roster as of now? Cheetara, Tigra, Panthro, the Wilykits, etc

I grew up on Thundercats, I don't think this remake is airing down here in AU yet, but I hope its good.

Oh, I am liking this. I am liking the adaptation, Slythe with MECHS, Mumm-Rah, etc. Especially loving that Mumm-Rah is turned up to eleven!

Just finished watching it a minute ago. As I say this, bear in mind that I hated the original series: it's really fucking good. I have yet to see anything I can ***** about.

I never seen the original series (due to the fact that I didn't exist when it use to air), but this new one is pretty awesome.

...I think we might be in the beginning of a revival of cartoons that started with MLP. As in, they don't suck anymore.

I am loving this show more and more with each episode, I hope that they can keep the quality high with everything, I am especially enjoying the animation style, the first episode was pretty impressive.

Honestly? I'm not feeling it.

I mean, I don't DISLIKE it, but there are some problems that are making it a little difficult to watch. Sometimes the voice-acting and animations don't quite match up, and the dialogue can be painfully stiff sometimes. The characters, so far, are pretty wooden, but that could change in time so I'll wait a few episodes before I properly judge it on that.

There are also some pacing issues, but it's not as bad as other shows. It's solid enough for kids, at least.

I'll check back on it every now and then, watch an episode or two and see if it improves any. Avatar wasn't perfect to begin with, either.

A million points for removing Snarf's ability to talk, though.

as for the rest of the show >.>
i have no complaints thus far, Snarf isn't anything but a pet that doesn't talk (which is good, hated him before)

I need a plush of the new Snarf.

and as per my friends statement here he's actually cute now

the twins wily kit/kat aren't getting on my nerves like before ether, i dare say i kinda like watching them, since they act more like kids now then short adults that where also annoying

the new Cheetara design is sexy, and honestly, i like most the new designs and some of the character reworks, the Tygra being Lion-o's older brother is still odd to me though

i also like that we got to see the day to day in Thundara BEFORE it got destroyed, sure made it kinda slow to start, but it was a good thing over all, IE Lion-o's test with the Sword of Omens, Cheetara having a real job, Jaga being alive for more then 5 minutes XD the new back story for Wily Kit/Kat

over all, very good so far, and i hope it stays this way
