Just watched the new Watchmen trailer that can, amongst other places, be found [a href="http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/?p=6103"] here[/a]. And I have to say my well restrained fanboyism is getting a little worried.

1) They seem to be referring to the Minute Men as the Watchmen, its a very small gripe but seems unnecessary.
2) There's a worrying quantity of slow motion, there was in the Dawn of the Dead re-make and 300, and the previous trailer. But I still hold out hope that its just to pad the trailer.

I'm still reasonably stoked about this, Muse as the song helps too but just getting a little twitchy if you know what I mean.

The only gripe I have, is that there are parts in slow motion, that are then put into even slower motion...

Wow... that trailer makes it look... really cheesy. I suppose Rorschach's voice is okay, but wow, it doesn't look very good.

Rorschach's voice doesn't bother me too much. If anything, he speaks his ligns out too fluently. In the comic, Rorschach seemed to spit his words out... like he had no desire to talk to anyone, and tried to avoid it as much as possible, even when he has something important to say. That to me is why he seems weird.

The slow motion is retarded.

I can sort-of understand changing Minute Men to Watchmen. For the laymen, it will tie the movies title to something more concrete (I doubt they'll have enough time in 2 hours to go into the subtle sides of "who's watching the watchmen?").

My worry isn't the slow motion or Rorschach cheesiness. My worry is the removal of the human element. The side story of the kid and the news stand owner, the psychologist interviewing Rorschach... that's what made the story compelling. You had to feel for all the flawed, hateful human beings that get their shit ruined. If you don't, then you just have another super hero story (which... Watchmen is not).

Actually, I guess that's my other worry:
Only Dr. Manhattan is a "super hero." Maybe Rorschach too, in a twisted sort of sense. Everyone else is a phoney, and they know they are phonies and embarrassed to be running around in suites. I think they're making the others seem too "heroic."

Overall I think it looks like it should be a good movie, Though I will admit I have never read or even knew about the Watchmen aside from a few mentions of it here and there. Hopefully they do not ruin the overall story hate when I watch a movie to only read the book, Only to find that movie had little to do with the book.

Mmmm...nice soundtrack. Philip Glass minimalist symphony, I believe that was from Akahnaten: Prelude. I'll give em credit, when Philip Glass is in your soundtrack you know it's gonna be extremely tense.

It's alright, I guess. I don't think it'll come with as much impact as the comic did, but mainly because of the end it doesn't seem like something that would transfer well to movie.

I still don't get how they are going to produce the ending as in the book.

I think it's "Pruit Igoe" from Koyaanisqatsi, but I'm not sure.

But as for the trailer, I'm digging it so far. The slow motion may be a little much, but I can't say it surprises me with Mr. 300 in the director's chair. The Minute Men-Watchmen change I can see how it might upset a few, but to be honest I completely forgot the group was called the Minute Men, but then again it's been about two or three years since I've read the book. Then again, I really dug the trailer for V for Vendetta, and I was a bit disappointed with it (fucking Wachowskis).

Hrm...looks like they spliced the two. The first half is definitely the opening of Akahnaten, the second half is definitely not. Must be Koyaanisqatsi...

You may have misunderstood. Muse are one of my favourite bands, it was the trailer that was making me squirmish.

I think it looks great. The shot of ... someone... throwing the Comedian across the room gave me chills.

I'm a fan of the comic book, but not to the extent where my knickers get into a knot over changes. At its best this movie will be an intelligent mystery thriller, like the book. At its worst it will at least have some good action.

Again I say, what is The Watchmen?
Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) Graphic Novel. Many people's favorite.

I suggest you read before movie. It'll make more sense as lot's of the story will be filtered out for the theatrical release.

Ah, thank you for enlightening me.

Even though a theatrical version of the graphic novel will be nowhere near as good as the novel itself, it still looks like a movie worth watching...I know I am still going to see it when it comes out.

How can you tell all that just by watching 2 trailers?
Slow motion is gonna be in Mr. 300's movies, but it didn't seem overused in the trailers.
I always thought the minutemen were the 1930's guys.

EDIT: Thanks for letting me know about the new trailer.

Yeah they were. The modern heroes never banded together with the exception of several partnerships.

I feel this movie is barely going to follow the original story at all. I still have lots of pet peeves about the costumes being changed and that Rorschach seems too sane.

But the ending was changed and it's too much about them and they realize it is political way too early and they even have a fight seen with Ozymandias.
