Bethesda released some videos this week. Note: "I think" these videos are a bit old and were shown at PR events.

The Basics [http://www.youtube.com/user/BethesdaSoftworks?v=oess32oDHbI&feature=pyv&ad=10239466531&kw=brink#p/a/f/1/yI0r9Pw1CB4]

General Gameplay [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiSRmt5YLcM]

The Objectives [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4cybT6xuBM&feature=relmfu]

I've seen a few misconceptions in recent threads which I will try to clear up.

*Brink is an objective based FPS game which relies on a balance of specialized character classes to win (medic, soldier, operative, and engineer). Players are not locked to one class during a map.

*I believe the game will ship with 8 maps, each with about 3-5 sections each. One team will be playing defense and one will be playing offense. There are three game modes in the game (see The Basics). Objectives in a map are not limited to CTF, but include hacking, escort missions, and blowing objects up. Deathmatch is NOT a game mode.

*Brink play will play similar to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory, and Enemy Territory:Quake Wars. Those comparing Brink to TF2 are not that far off since RTCW used the class system that came from the original Team Fortress. Brink's developer, Splash Damage, started as a mod team and made Quake 3 Fortress.

For those interested, I think there will be more videos released next week. For those not interested, have a nice day.

I still say it is TF2, I don't care what you say otherwise. There is a class called an Engineer who builds turrets and a remake of a spy.

Plenty of assault rifles and SMG's going around though, that alone makes a huge difference. TF2's characters are usually not so nimble either, and TF2 doesn't have objectives either that change all the time.

TF2 or not, I just hope it's a great game and I REALLY hope it's fun and less spammy than TF2. Anyway, because RTCW (2001) borrowed from Team Fortress, the lineage of Brink goes all the way back to Quake World Team Fortress in 1996. However, RTCW added more complex objectives rather than only CTF and escort missions. Splash Damage has it's roots in Team Fortress and they borrowed the concept of the spy class for W:ET in 2003. The addition of deployables didn't come until 2007's ETQW, which is the same year The Orange Box was released.

Hell, I think Team Fortress introduced the concept head shots to FPS' but I'm not sure if I am remembering correctly. It's been a while. The TF mod has been very influential in gaming if you look at how many ideas were borrowed from QWTF and Half Life TF mods(TFC- 1999).

One other misconception I saw in another thread: That there seemed to be lots of grenade spam in some of the videos. It is reported that grenade will primarily incapacitate and momentarily stun other players. When players are incapacitated, they can still shoot unless they are gibbed. There might still be grenade spam, but it won't mean free kills like in CoD.

My friends and I are really looking forward to this game. My friends are taking it very seriously and demand we all play only one class through the entire campaign. I look forward to the custimization greatly.
